Title: What would you want for renting your round
Post by: Andy@w.c.s on December 29, 2009, 10:42:08 am
Hi all

If you were to rent your round what would you expect in income from it

it has income of about a thousand a week for one man

Would you want a deposit ?
an agreement drawn up ?
percentage of the weekly takings, would you charge an additional rental fee for your van and equipment ?

Has / or is anyone renting at the moment ?

any thoughts on this would be helpfull

I suppose a ballpark figure would be about 30% - 40%  if the renter is supplying van, fuel, water, poles etc. to about 60% if you are supplying the equipment and buying the fuel.
I do a bit of subcontract work at the moment (2 -3 days per month) and supply everything.  I charge 60% of the take.  For logistical reasons only, (not sending cash by post) I keep the cash and submit an invoice with the 60% total on it with the amount outstanding noted on the invoice.  It's never yet worked out that more than 60% is paid by cash on the day - indeed there's often £100+ outstanding.  Naturally I post the cheques with my invoice.  Seems to work out OK.
A written agreement is probably for the best - more so that both parties know where they stand rather than to carry any legal weight.  Stuff such as what happens re bad debts and complaints may need to be addressed.
If you want to converse about it more detail I would be happy to ring you (in case you aren't aware, I'm the guy who went for a curry with you and Brett Walker at the Birmingham cleaning show a couple of years back).
I'm not after renting from you as I'm in the southeast but as I have done this sort of thing, perhaps some feedback on the phone may help?
