greetings all, Well i dont know about yous lot , but im really stuffed and need a great week this week. The weather forecast isnt too bad for essex , but as im wfp im concerned about the water icing up and am wondering whats the lowest temperature i can work at and will it shatter the windows ?
cheers .

will it shatter the windows ?
Do you use a hot water system? Cold won't break the glass - just freeze on it then you're stuffed.
Try a bit on a downstairs window first - see what happens, but bear in mind upstairs may not be heated like the living rooms.
-
no mines cold water, so whats the lowest temperature you can work at ?
-
i tried the back window of my house . And they froze. temp is about -1. i want to go out this week im in to minds of going out trad.

I went out yesterday to do a full clean (gutters, fascias etc) and had no chance. As i was cleaning it was freezing up and of course when i pulled the hose out of the van it just froze.Same again today and i think tomoz will be a no go as well.I really needed this week as well.

Ive been on a mission today cause i wanna go out this week. So i tried wfp and it just froze up after scrubbing not straight away but it froze. So i read on here about using sreen wash trad. Any way i used 50 / 50 water screen wash and windows didnt freeze. So if it gets any colder i just wont bother adding any water to it just a bit of squeegy off.
Im in kings lynn

for gods sake and I know this is obvious but if your going out trad dont put a ladder on a sill or anything plastic in this weather.
I will be out tomorrow wfp, if the hoses freeze thats work stopped, I have a nursing home I can do trad if needebe and a roof clean that can be done should mother nature keep looking down on us.
All I hope is all that work this week is they keep safe a few hundred quid aint worth risking your life for.

I have not done any wfp today as it is sunday and my wife has me painting the whole house as my parents are coming for christmas, as is my Boy ;D.
Ice everywhere outside today, we worked all day friday from about 10 ish till I could not see much due to being dark there was snow everywhere but was not freezing, I am hoping tomorrow will be above freezing if not we will be trad and get some of the workload done.
lets hope it rains and does not stop ;)

I ended up doing a bit of work this afternoon. What a performance LOL.
Firstly, although I drain the pipework in the van at night, I discovered today that there was still some ice near the pump area. Not entirely unexpected as I was pre-warned this might happen. So, out with the backpack. I had to fill it from the tank with a coke bottle though as I had no containers with me (didn't expect to need them). Oops!! Backpack wouldn't pump water either as a bit too cold. It was above freezing outside - just - but clearly things needed thawing out. So I put the backpack in the passenger footwell and ran the engine with the foot blower on full tilt. I then locked the van with the spare key. So I got the ladder off. I carry rubber matting with me and use ladder mitts so safety was OK. It was a good reminder of why I switched to WFP. I have grown unused to ladders in recent years so was a bit slow. By the time I had done the trad work, the backpack was usable so I did a load of Georgian panes with it. It seems very usable so long as I have containers. Think I might be on short days with backpack and containers this coming week. If I can go out there and at least earn something that will be a help. I'm currently owed about £1900 by various customers and it is causing a pretty serious cashflow problem for me.
After the initial job, I went and did some bungalows that I normally trad anyway. No problem witrh that. Plenty of screenwash in the water and away I went.

im out tomorrow if the water feezes i'll call it a day , no way i m doing trad, it will still freez unless you are quick.

this time of year can be a pain for water freezing trad & wfp.
you could get to a house do the front fine and find the conservatory will freeze up! or the shaded part of a property and so on....

im gonna use my trad pole on all first floor windows tommorrow with screenwash in my bucket and miss out the windows above flat roofs!the things we do to carry on eh? ;D ::) :P :-\ :) ;D
lets hope we all get some done/paid this week!! ;D

We have had so much snow it's just not funny....today is the 5th day of work that has been cancelled....hve budgeted for 16 days of no work this winter...despite planning for it...I do hate to spend that money compensating...
But please guys...be sensible and be safe...a little cash is not worth you personal safety or that of others..
Have a good one....
ps I think I am getting cabin fever!!!

ps I think I am getting cabin fever!!!
I'm not surprised. Its murder isn't it. You're not working so you don't want to go out spending, and so you end up mincing about all day.
I'm determined to get to work today.

Me too, though it's just started snowing, 6 hours ahead of schedule! I have a couple of good customers that have asked to have their windows done for Christmas so I really want to look after them and get them done. I'll wait til it warms up then go out and see what it's like - today will probably be better than tomorrow, lots of rain and ice about tomorrow. I have a huge backlog of work that I'm desperate to catch up with so I hope next week is better.
