Hi guys , just thought of putting out this subject, because As a rule we should all help out all the people all over the world who need help, specially this time of year, so I was thinking how much of your money would you give some one who is in poverty, or physical disorder, or mentally disorder, or who just need some kind of help?
As a rule I try to give as much as I can, because I know and actually has happened to me that when ever I helped some one who need my help, GOD has paid me back in double or more. Mind you this doesn’t mean that you give to receive, we should just give to feel good, and to those who never have given, I say just try it and you see how wonderful you feel just inside of yourself.
So please give sensible answer to this question.
Regards
Bosh

Bosh - I have to say I think this is a really silly thread. What does it matter HOW MUCH people give to people in need. Everyones circumstances are different, my son has special needs & our lives are affected by this everyday, NO amount of money is going to change it.
well done colin.

Are you on some kind of charity bashing mission?
-
Is this to do with religion? or similar beliefs
-
I think what you give to charity is a very personal and private matter.
There's nothing more that gets up my nose when people say how much they give to charity. It's very sanctimonious.
So the answer is just do it and keep it to yourself.
-
Well said Mike !

From this day on, I will.... I know what you mean Mike and I totally agree!
-
Also
If you give and expect something in return, you have wasted your money.
-
If I get the opportunity to give anything this next year or raise any money, I know where it will be going. It will be to help our own - 'Help The Heroes' and 'Afghan Heroes' charities. I dont want to hijack this thread but I have to say I think its a disgrace that these guys are not looked after adequately for the remainder of their lives.
Dave.

well this is a time of giving. I give to a charity I feel worthwhile every year at this time of year.
what we give is personal - but I give enough to feed and house a homeless person over xmas.
this is just a chat thread - so we just join in if we want to -seemples!

Charity begins at home - penny for the Stewy fund anyone?!!?

Giving at Christmas makes me laugh. What about the poor sods the rest of the year, do they have to hold out till next Christmas. ;D
This shouldn't be in the CC forum anyway.
Humbug. >:( ;D

Mike ;D
Think your right..
-
I can see lots negativity showing up here.
Please watch the you tub link again. :)

Well I've watched the you tube video-that was a waste of 9 minutes 51 seconds of my time! :'( It doesn't really seem any different to any other "motivational" speaker who spends all his time telling you what he is about to do but never gets round to doing it.
So Bosh, I'm obviously thick; what is the connection to giving to charity?
But to answer the thread question I have principles which I use.
Firstly I give on a regular basis
Secondly it is generally to low profile charities and I look for ones whose overheads are less than 10%-and plenty of charities can manage that. This tends to mean that i would not give to, for example. Guide Dogs for The Blind-partly because their overheads are so high with their advertising and wages, but also because they tend to sit on huge reserves of money and never get round to spending the money which people have given in the belief that some blind person will actually get a dog.
Thirdly, I give through Gift Aid so that the tax can be claimed back.
Fourthly I rarely give to either an emotional response or emergency, as this tends to attract the spontaneous givers when there are other charities that require support on an ongoing basis.
Finally I cannot help but believe that the money from emergency responses is often wasted or disappears before it gets to the intended recipients.
Hope my answer is sensible enough?

This isn't an appropriate place to push this stuff. Maybe in the non cleaning related forum would be best.
Giving at Christmas has more to do with Charles Dickens than the birth of little baby Jesus. Before 'A Christmas Carol' benevolence at Christmas was unheard of.
I know this is true as it was on the One Show last night. ;D

As many have already said, giving to charity is a personal thing. Im not quite sure what you are getting at with this thread Bosh ??? ??? What has that You Tube link got to do with giving for charity ???
Richie.
PS Are you some kind of GOD bible basher ???

The Guide Dog HQ used to be down the road from me. You are so right. Cute Labradors = £££

The idea is if you give you get back.
Unfortunately whilst very true people take it too literally and get hacked off when it doesn't work.
If you expect something in return you haven't got the main benefit which is the idea of personal abundance.
Tithing is a solid bit of wisdom corrupted by the greedy leaders of various religions. ie you will be even better if you give it to the church. ::)
Also beware Authors peddling their wares for a ready made audience - congregations and American Network Marketing organisations.
-
The church my mum goes to,takes money off it`s congregation every month by direct debit ! Just think that is really wrong !
But then i am really anti so prob a bit biased.
I like Banardos, that`s why they get my money, and also when i get other charities calling me wanting me to donate to whatever,i am not telling them porkies when i say i have my charity already ;D
I have found though, that since i stopped projecting a lot of hate at the bloke i bought the van off,and being reeally negative, that work has increased by a lot !
Did have a day off on monday, but have booked 2 jobs in now ;D
-
My mate had a Blind Dog.... It used to bump in to everything..... ;D
-
Did you get some Milliput Colin?
-
Not yet Mike, I'll pick some up when I get my R/O water and a few new frags.......
-
Do you have an RO unit? If you are after one don't get one from a fish shop do a search on RO MAN. You need at least a three cartridge type. Works out a lot cheaper than buying water especially when you could equally use it as a carpet cleaning expense. ;)

Probably retired to the Caribbean

I've only just started fish keeping and my wife's put the anchors on me buying a 6 footer aquarium from "Maidenhead Aquatics".... So I only pick up 20 to 40 litres of R/O for my tank (97 Litres) and 2 of my kids tropical tanks.... But when I do eventually upgrade I'll invest in a R/O unit...... Are they expensive?
-

A 300 gal/day R~O system about £250
100 gal/day probably about £120
Mine changes 280 ppm input water into 4 ppm output water
I'll have a look through my favourites list in a mo for the links
Here you are http://www.purefreedom.co.uk/store_ro.html

You would only need a 50GPD even with a six foot tank.
Are you on any of the forums? You can pick up loads of stuff 2nd hand on Ultimatereef.com I would buy a brand new tank though.
Lots of DIY stuff for halides, who does the electric bill in your household, hoping it's you otherwise you are stuffed.

Shame then that $80 million of that fund was given to hotel cains to build on the beaches of Sri Lanka after they had passed a law within 3 days kicking the fishermen off. >:(
