Title: First freeze up today
Post by: JRDEasiReach on December 18, 2009, 04:09:45 pm
After having my tank etc wrapped up inside the van all night, i went out to check it this morning, everything was still ok even though it was -4 outside, then went to check to see if the pure was working, no it was frozen on the outside so i went to get the hair dryer, 5 mins and it worked.  Got to my first house and everything still working fine on the top 3 windows, then when i took pole down to do the bottoms it had frozen up inside the pole, still -2 at this stage so i went across to a neighbours house who was in and asked for a kettle of hot water, got it no probs and even have him as a new custie next month when im round again :) so poured it up the inside of the pole and it unclogged it eventually, then just done the remainder of the day with it up full blast and worked faster than normal, then got to my 2nd last house and as its kinda new the manhole covers are only sitting there so stepped up to clean the window and bang my right leg went down the hole, sore as feck now.  So i battered on but could only manage to do one more house as my leg was killing me and my fingers were forzen.  Oh it was a mental day but i liked being out all the same.  :)

No my outlet pipe for my pure, its outside the van through a hole in the floor of it, thats the bit that was frozen to start with, then it was the thin piping up the inside of my pole that froze up.

I did a conservatory for my first clean this morning - a mistake - and all the water just froze on the conservatory; it looked like frosted glass by the time I finished.

It almost froze as soon as the water touched the glass, so I couldn't really scrub.

I explained to the customer to phone me if it didn't dry perfect!   I then went and traditionally cleaned a couple of bungalows, then went back to WFP and didn't have any further problems, but I think it was pretty much 'knife edge' as to whether things would freeze up again.

I've had a good day though.

It was basically my own fault that mine froze i think as i should have put it up full suck on the varistream when i started so that it wouldnt have time to freeze up, have learned for again though, once i got it unclogged it was fine the rest of the time.  Just takes one wee bit to mess your day up, i now have to go and do 1 job tomorrow that i should have got done today, oh well :)

Why didn't you put a fan heater in the car?

happened me today too. Couldnt believe it, my pole hose was solid, a layer of ice on top of my water in trolley. took me several hours to defrost.

So i hope this sorts it!!

oil filled radiator, some polystyrene under the tank and several sheets over that and my microbore!!

-6 in manchester o sent lads out after a brew and there going to do some trad, when its this cold it doesnt matter about having a heater in the back has it will still freeze when the hoses lie on the floor and the flow stops.

so i have to do trad jobs till about 11.

Milltown, is that a role of paper above your heater ? Surely a fire risk mate, we all want to still be able to work but if your van goes on fire it will be impossible.

yes it is a role of paper...but its an radiator set on its lowest setting, i think u could put a jar of petrol on top and it wouldnt be a problem.

WENT OUT TODAY
wfp stated ok within 5 minutes  water in hose had frozen up, change to tradinational method water frezzing on windows ,
called it a day , with the amount of snow which is frozen on window sils and the aggro of eqpt frezzing up is it worth the bother of turning out

Tim a heater inside wont help my foot of piping outsite the van to my outlet will it, i can bare with trying a hairdryer and a hot jug of water to defrost that IF the main things like my tank and pump stay frost free.  They are expensive!!

this is going to sound stupid, but why are people filling up tanks at nite knowing its going to freeze,  just leave them till morning,   and fill up then

did i say the water in my tank was frozen?  i havent checked my van since saturday and went out there now started with the 2nd turn(its 10 yr old) and no giving of the pedal either :) and the water left inside my tank aint frozen up either so its now to check the pipes to see what way they are in, i will need to at least make 30 mins worth of water up if i can as i wont have enough to do what i need to tomorrow, oh heck :)

just in the middle of making up some more water so i will have enough for tomorrows work, if i can i want to leave the van as empty as possible over the xmas hols so i have less to worry about, 30 mins will do it rightly, i also have learned to release the pressure off the outlet pipe so theres not as much water in it to freeze up :)

I'm confused, where is your RO based? And how do you fill up?

for the second time explaining here, i have all my things inside my van, pump, ro unit, etc right, my pipes for filling my tank, waste and my outlet pipe for my pure go outside my van through the floor, its these parts that freeze up on me not the inside as my duvet does that job for me.  Understand now?
