Got a rug to clean today,100% polyprop with traditional woven construction........says so on the label.
How much is the likely to shrink if I use HWE?
Anything else to worry about?
-
Wayne, poly prop does not shrink.
-
I presumed that as its a woven polyprop as in a Belgian Wilton carpet that it might shrink

If unsure, then use a low moisture system or secure (block) the rug prior to cleaning. A good pre-vac, both sides, followed by a MS (as long as it's not too dirty) with plenty of agitation and low moisture rinse. Also give plenty of 'dry' passes. Should be fine.

i agree with Adi
Paul - you may want to be a little more careful with polys, u are aright, the poly dont shrink but if its woven into the backing like a Belgian or equivilant then the backing may well big time!!!! Many new poly carpets have woven back constructions and maybe even be plain in colour, not like a traditional Belgian and will catch you out if not looked out for! :P
-
The worst that will happen is the edges will go a bit wavey then drop back or put a sheet of ply on top to drop it.
I threw one outside last week for the skip then thought I would clean it for the garage. It's rained pretty much every day. Flat as a pancake and as new thanks to Ultrapack ::)
As for shrinking even if it did which it won't, it's a rug.

That Ultrak's got me some jobs lately.... I had nothing left on the van for make up stains and resorted to using Ultrapak as a spotter with excellent results..... Bloomin marvelous stuff!!!!!!

Colin Ultra pac has been by far the best product for poly prop for years now.
New Look,
Nearly all cheap poly rugs are power loomed these days and the warp and weft are cotton or nylon, hessian/jute is not used that much now. Therefore you will not shrink one. They usually buckle abit on cleaning especially if the truckmount is throwing alot of heat out but they go back on drying.
Oh on cleaning a few hundred B/W carpets ,ive never shrunk one yet ;)

Wayne,
Clean it with hwe/power washer or immersion if it shrinks[it would be hardly measurable]
The sides of the rug[selvages tend to ripple/buckel a bit when wet[and relax again when dry.]
