Title: office/commercial cleaning companies - how often new customers?
Post by: Adam P on December 16, 2009, 04:45:26 pm
when i first started in april there seemed to be loads of commercial and office properties calling, now i haven't had one in over 3 months call. i get clicks on google adwords daily for this service but nothing ever comes of it. now i accept that perhaps this is a quiet time as it's almost xmas, but then i still get plent of clicks per week.

any advice what is going on?

Probably competitors with nothing to do but spend your adwords budget clicking in and out of your website. I admit I do that to a drainage bloke down the road from me ::) ::)

good tactic, i hope google are smart enough to notice this, which i'm sure they're as this lowers the success of their product.

i assume it could be various ones checking me out as i check mine out every now and again when i see where i am, and who i'm against etc.

this is why i ask how often people on here get new office/commercial customers to quote for. hope maybe they will say xmas time/jan is quiet, then feb/march it picks up until november again etc

We get around 1 - 2 quotes per month. On average. Then some times we get nothing for 2 months. But then we get about 4 quotes the following.

I think alot of it is to do with the contract length comming to an end or that they have moved premises.

Some that I quote for I dont bother with. We pick and choose our work now.

We quoted for a pub  clean the other day. Sounded promising. But when I arrived and had a look around the guy that I was being showed the premises wrote down on an old torn peace of paper estimated prices I gave.

At the end I gave him our brochure that was in a plastic folder. Strange thing he took out the contents and gave us back the folder.

I just ended the conversation politly and went on with the days work. Never sent in the quote.

We have had other where we sent in the quotation and as soon as it was sent over via email/recieved by mail we had reply immediately saying unsuccesful. Far to soon. Just a waste of time.

Some are just price shoppers.

If you want the phone to ring ring you have to cold call. day in day out for commercial work unless you are really well know like the big companies.

Hmm, I was under the impression this was actually dubbed "click fraud"? lol.
I personally would be a little careful as Google has been known to act on the behalf of the advertiser and prosecute. Sounds extreme I know, but I dare say if someone was doing it to you, you too would be looking at putting a stop to it.

With regards to Dave (is it ?) I am often left wondering if the reason we get fewer calls is because of competition lowering costs simply to get the work? I then look at what we quoted and know that anything less simply would not be worth stepping out of the door for. But I reckon a good old call round just to get over the phone estimations is often not a bad method to keep in touch with competition and how well or poorly priced you are in comparison.

Regards,

Tom.

I think it goes in swings, I have had 3 quotes off the web site this month, some months are quiet and some I will get two or three a week.  Click fraud is exactly why I do not use adwords and google does have some systems in place to monitor it.  I use stat counter, and it gives me the IP address of the person that clicks onto my site, what pages they visit and how long they were on each page.  I can pop the IP address into arin who is, and if they have their own server, I can find out who it was that came on to the site.  That has been useful as I have been able to contact a few companies that were looking for a cleaner but did not fill out my information request form.  I landed one contract for 1100 per month that way.  I seen who they were and then cold called them and got the appointment and 3 months later got the contract.

I think the next couple of weeks will be pretty slow though, not to bothered either, would like a little time off, but I will not pass up the chance on a good contract either if someone contacts me.

Another thing that stat counter will do is tell you the refering link.  I have seen a few from this site where they click on my link that I have here and then go to my site and check it out.   But it shows if they come from a directory and I even know when google bot ges and crawls my site.

I have this on my site without the use of google. It logs and monitors everything for me :)

# UNITED KINGDOM 74.00%
# NETHERLANDS 11.63%
# UKRAINE 7.61%
# SWEDEN 2.54%
# UNITED STATES 1.48%

Thats useful. But still I would be aprehensive about adwords, although granted I would not definately write its use off completely.
