Title: What do you call a "good week"
Post by: Glynn on June 10, 2005, 10:39:27 pm
In carpet cleaning sales, what do you consider an acceptable figure (WEEKLY)

less than 6k per month is bad
               7-8k average
              10k    good

This all depends on whether you are a sole trader or have employees, I would suspect that this question is based on sole trader status.

I would expect a figure of £500 would be classed as a good week for many  cleaners, though some may earn this in a single day!!

The above refers to a sole trader

Is it possible to alter your choices, as my figure isnot on the scale??

There are two people who have voted for £3500 as being a 'good week' for a carpet cleaning turnover.

So what would be a bad week?  £1000?

What the devil are these people who earn £3K per week doing cruising a cleaning website?  You'd have thought they'd be on holiday in the Bahamas or Lanzarotte or somewhere.  Wouldn't you?

Or are they waffling?

Hi Glyn

I think this post is a little vague and not entirely representative.

I understand we have the 'cream of the cream' on here but I have to say most carpet cleaners I know would be turning over less than that.

Obviously the guys with truckmounts doing large commercial work may be turning over those sorts of figures but then again that's not necessarly an indication of what they're 'earning' as you rightly say.

I'd be interested in a poll that asked what you guys thought the 'average' carpet cleaner turns over. It might be more reflective of the overall figure.

You'll rarely get a carpet cleaner on here that says 'I struggle to do £400 a week and yet there are plenty of them out there'

Regards

Mike

People who know me know I regularly do £2500 but I would have to work a Saturday to start hitting toward £3500 but it is achievable without cutting corners or shoddy workmanship.

Id say £1000 a week is a good week, if it only involved 5 jobs, taking up just a morning each. Id also say £2000 takings was a bad week, if it involved more than 20 jobs or 7 days work.

If you have no morgage, no hire purchase, how much do you need? after all making money is easy, its how much you get to keep thats important.

i find all this rather odd. on many previous dicussions of takings most were in disbalief you could earn £35.000 per year now look at you HIDDEN BEHIND THE POLL. COMING OUT WITH HOW MUCH, time to make your mind up.and whatever you take isent earnings it is dependant on costs. equipment. time and motion. tax. wear and tear,UNLESS YOU ARE ALL DRIVING PORCHES,AND LIVING IN MANSIONS TELL THE TRUTH.GO ON I DARE YOU.

If its all about making money then however you manage it , so long as you do manage it, without causing anyone serious problems, could be regarded as OK, I guess. If you take your time charging high prices getting good money for little effort and few jobs, then thats one way, or if it siutes you to charge low prices, rushing round, or not rushing but being very quick, by taking all the shortcuts there are, but keeping the customer satified, price/quality wise, then that another way. Its all in the culture of how you are and how you prefer to actually do the job, whichever way, so long as YOUR customers are happy with YOUR standard of work at your price, so long as you end up every week, reaching your target.
Dave.

When I was in the disaster restoration game I would hit the top figure no problem, now I am in the cc game and can not get near the bottom figure on an average cc week.

This is a crazy poll, maybe we should have one for one man band cc

Surely it would be better to ask for a figure per cleaner/employee,
Someone employing 3 cleaners will need 3 times the turnover of a one man band.

Whilst I dont doubt some of you have achieved high sales per week or month, I will ask the question of how did you achieve it.

10k per month is say £2500 per week or £500 per day.  If we take the average day of 6 hours (the other two spent driving and on the phone booking the 10k work for next month) this equates to £83 per hour.

Now could you explain how you achieve £83 per hour if your prevaccuming, moving furniture, prespraying, spotting etc.  Even if you didnt do all these steps and just sucked I dont think I could move the wand at that speed even with a Truckmount.

Ive achieved £80 an hour with Texatherm but those type of jobs are few and far between.

I did achieve £60 an hour on Saturday with portable HWE but again I prevacuumed etc.

thanks
Mark

PS.  its not that I dont believe the figures but perhaps youd all be so kind as to show the rest of us how its achieved

I dont believe a sole trader can earn £3500.00 every week, thats £14000.00 per month.

Dont tell me these amounts can be achived in Jan/Feb /Mar. Its all bull!!

If the company however employes and has a fleet of vans on the road & has large commercial contracts then yes.
