bloke phones up today says he mends misty glass and all that and would i recomend him to my custys who have any glass problems.
he says he will pay me comision for any work he does, what i'm thinking is what if he's another wc or knows a wc and nicks my custys , undercutting and things.
he said he has a advert in local mag but i cant see it , has anyone herd of such a thing .
also he said he is going to send me some business cards with a letter saying how much money i get per window he does.
do you think this is a scam???

I think you should be ok, He is only saying recommend him. Not give him all your customers details.
So you will only be putting him through to a few if any. And if he is sending you cards etc and the very few customers you do recommend him to will know whats his for (repairs) and not to clean.
Would not have someone clean my windows if I knew they had conned my clearner out of work.
Seriously think youl be ok.
And fair play to him, Good way to advertise.

I doubt that another shiner would go to all that hassle but you just never know. There is a process whereby the insides of misty double glazed units can be improved. IMO, there's every chance the guy's on the level and contacting window cleaners sounds like a good idea. Some people may well go for having it done instead the more expensive option of replacing a unit.

Misty2clear are one company that does it so yes there are companies out there that do it. Thats not to say your guy is not a scammer but you may need to check him out yourself
-
I would never recommend anyone unless i knew them if he upsets your customer you could lose them as you put him forward look after your welfare not his

yeah i agree on this with you. ye don't know him from Adam. Possibly meet up with the guy i'd say and chat with him. get him to show you his work etc. build a relationship with the guy. Who knows it could be a good little partnership. we all have to start somewhere.
fair play to the guy as a cracking way of getting work

a guy aproached me a while back, saying the same thing. i think its genuine, theyre just looking for leads and will cut you in for a few quid. but in my opinion im not going to bother as dont like pointing out house faults to customers, why get involved in broken felt roofs or cracked glass ,theres a chance could blame you !
-
I've got a guy I do this for - sounds kosher to me. Works quite well cuz he says to them "Naah, 's'not yer windy cleaner Mrs. - it just happens over time."
-
i don this for a m8 of mine,i recommend him to fix glass he gives me a tip, thank you.
not much but it goes towards me making my first million ;D ;D ;D ;D

Test him out,
Get a mate to pose as a one of your customers and get him to call him for a price. Then see what he does
-
Have a chat with him and ask to see him on the job.
He's got a good head on him. Who knows better than a window cleaner if a custy has misted over windows.
I'm not sure how you would approach the customer though. Like said above... They might not like being reminded.
What you could do is direct him to the customers house, that way he will be able to knock it / leaflet a house that needs the work doing instead of putting out a shed load of leaflets to houses that may not need them

yes i know i'm not going to bother , sounds more trouble than its worth .

I had some leaflets posted to me earlier in the year offering the same service.
Don't think it's a scam, just good business sense.
Loads of my customers have misty windows and i just give them a leaflet. Don't bother to see if there is commission involved, although the letter told me £15 for each customer who i recommend.
-
Its not a scam mate because every time I meet a window fitter at a local networking event they always beg me to take their business cards and say if I send any customers their way they will pay me commission. I always tell them my uncle is a window fitter and I've never been able to find him any work!

Probably a forum somewhere for this work there offering, and there all saying get in touch with a window cleaner.
Maybe give some leaflets in return?
