Id just ask him for it,
Or tell him that someone on here as asked for a round in your area and you might sell it if he doesnt start paying,
Simples.

If you can find a commercial job worth £150- £200 for a days work, you could give him all the £550 of work to pocket and get him to do the commercial job as his rent.
Then invoice the job for your money.
(To do things by the book he would invoice you as a subcontractor for the day doing the commercial work and you invoice him rent but the two invoices would cancel each other out so he does the job as his rent but doesn't need to pay you out of the money he earned.)
You'd have to make sure he did the job on time regularly and check up now and again that it is done properly.

M Henderson's idea is quite good but if he is that unreliable at paying you would you trust him on a good commercial job?
dont want to fall out with him over it
By not paying you it doesn't sound like he's that bothered about falling out with you, so just tell him you want your money or you'll take the work back!

Why not change the way the arrangement works?
I have an arrangement with someone where I do a similar amount of monthly work. All cheques are sent to him or made out to him for me to forward. I keep the cash. When the work is done, I invoice him for my percentage of the total work minus the cash. It's all above board and is done this way as me sending him cash in the post wouldn't be secure. That way, the subcontractor is always owed money rather than the other way round.

Get your money ... then dont rent it to him anymore.
Some people just take the mick, you are running a business not a charity.
sometimes hard decisions have to be made,.. this is one of them.
It would be easy for me as its money and business, and no room for sentiment.

Whatever you do don't let the situation continue, or you will fall out for defo.
Always, always put these things in writing even among friends, people forget what's been agreed.
I agree with an earlier poster get some work out of him instead, that way everyone is happy.

i found out a long time ago that friends, family and business dont work.it sounds like he,s taking the pee.i would get the money off him and take the work back then sell it on to someone else and in future if i were u id just sell a bit on every now and then if ur struggling to get round.i sold a bit off for £1200 a few years back.most of it wasnt v.good but ok for someone starting out.i would also never employ friends or family again.too much trouble and hassle!!id rather stay on my own and keep honing my round into a good little earner!!WITHOUT HASSLE!! ;D ;D
best wishes
