Title: Half price for internal windows ?
Post by: Pureandclean on December 09, 2009, 08:22:28 pm
I've done lots of external commercial windows, very little internal work. Just been doing some work for a Facility management co. external prices were ok but they have just asked for all the units to be cleaned internally and I told them I would charge the same price for doing inside as I do for outside. This lass turns round and says we normally only pay half of the external price for the internal cleans.
First time I've come across this, we have always charged the same for internal and external.
What do you think, is she trying it on, or is this normal practice?

Internal windows are always a pain.  In offices for example, desks, filing cabinets, people, office furniture all in the way.  You can't spash pure water around them and run either.

I always try to price the clean for an inside and out clean, and then wangle (for example) a monthly exerior clean with a every-other-month inside clean.  I do this for quite a few large(ish) commercial accounts and it works.

Insides don't get that dirty but they take much longer to do than the exterior.

i allways double the inside price

infact i do a job ( its a office ) and i have trebled the price for the inside, its a pain to do, stuff allways in the way, you flick some water and it lands on some paperwork which is not good

These are all empty office units, have cleaned the outsides a couple of times.
External price was only ok, not good.
She claims all the other contractors are happy with 1/2 price for insides, I think they must be daft if they have agreed to that, unless they are employing and paying minimum wage.

I would quote what you want for them, if she does not like it , don't do them, half price she is having a laugh I think unless you can wfp them all inside and as long as there are know floors, then again I would still want at least the same as the other side of glass.

Then maybe they should come and clean the inside windows.  No?  Thought not.  I reckon someone is trying to pull a fast one on you.

We always charge 1.5 x more for internals because they take much longer to do.
The only advantage of having lots of internal work is when its very bad weather.

Hi Pureandclean

If you can get the same as out is good, but, we work on roughly 20% discount for internals. i.e. £30 ext & £55 int & ext. It depends on how quick you are trad, we are quick so no probs.

But, i do think 50% is trying a fast one, but, it could be someone as previously quoted then just ragged them & gone. If you explain the level of service you are prepared to give then a small reductiion should be enough.

We pass through congleton from time to time, nice area, my sister works there.

Cheers

Gary

Half price? Nooooooooooooooooooooo!! They always take me twice as long as the outside.
I tell most people it is double the outside cost, which puts most people off. Some work will charge 1 1/2 times outside.
But ideally, i don't really want the work.

Maybe she was mistaken and it's actually half price for outside.
