Title: FAO Colin Day (re oven cleans)

Hi Colin

An agent asked my other half yesterday if we can start replacing cooker hood filters as part of each eot clean.

Are they standard for most hoods?

The ones we have replaced are different to make and model.

Be careful with this. The hoods on most gas hobs act as a safety cut out when closed so they must be fitted properly. I would say no to this as its gas you are dealing with.

Hi Pete,

Correct me if I am wrong.

But are not most cooker hoods connected to the mains electric.

Most modern cooker hoods are seperate and are not connected in anyway to the gas hob or cooker And hang over the hob to collect the steam and fat residue.

Hello..... I'm here to the rescue ;D

The cooker hoods which have a disposable filter need to be changed every 6 months ;) I always supply the custy with filter from B&Q, £15 and you get enough for 2 jobs.... But there are cheaper options also in B&Q....

I don't get much call for cleaning hoods because when I tell my customer that a new filter costs an extra £10, they tend to say they'll not bother ::)

Some hoods have a removable mesh filter which can be dip tanked but to be honest, It's easier to advise your customer to wash them in a dish washer every 6 months or so......

They are for end of tenancy cleans so we can't advise them to clean them but from what you're saying we could either clean mesh ones ourselves or replace disposable ones fairly easily yeah?

Will have to check a bit further into this before saying yes for definite but as with all agents they'll just move onto the next company if you say no >:( (Obviously if there was a safety implication this hopefully wouldn't be true).
