if you keep reciepts everything thats related to your business should be tax deductable mate
-
A guide line, NOT A RULE, if you can honestly say it's for the business, you will probably be able to claim ;)
-
everything u use for ur business fuel, scrims, ladders, rubbers etc.keep reciepts for EVERYTHING!
-
printer. stationery, printer cartridges, work wear....the list is endless
-
Insurances; trade association membership; training courses.
-
Fuel cost, road tax, vehicle insurance. Consumables, allmost all tools, computers, printers, stationary, clothing, life cover key worker, personal expenses (to a degree), website costs, public liability insurance, phone bills if used solely for business. Just a few off the top of my head.
If you got one room in the house solely as your office, you can claim part of your rent/counciltax/fuelbills.

I don't have life cover so cannot really comment on it. You just claim for it as you spend on it I assume.

Yes they are mate :)

Finding a good accountant can be hard work. Best to speak to other small businesses in your area, hairdressers, garages, etc, and see who they are using and if they would recommend them.

Depends on the size of your business, if it's just you, or a small business you can definitely do it yourself. It's not too difficult.
-
Sorry, I always thought accountant fees were not deductable, but fully accept my mistake

These are deductable as they are classed as professional fees.

I like to know is done right, for a couple of hundred quid a year its well worth it, in my opinion

Yes they are.
As far as I know, the only accountant fees not tax deductible are the ones incurred in an investigation.
EDITED TO SAY: I've just read down further and seen your amendment.
To the original poster. Make sure your business is registered with the IR within 3 months of starting or they fine you (£100 I think).

being on www.windowwashers.co.uk for a year is tax deductable

Furthermore, this fine is NOT tax deductable. For that matter neither are any fines imposed by revenue and customs!

Before anything else I am NOT having a go at you personally :)
This is why we should all employ an accountant as "thought" could turn out to be wrong and cost you money ;D

I dont intend to have an accountant, my books are kept up to date on a friday evening or at least before the next week starts, i keep receipts for everything i spend from my business account and then when the tax return comes in april ill be sorted with things written down and sorted out, one thing though if you DO employ an accountant dont just turn up with a box full of receipts and ask him to sort it out, you will be charged a fortune!! ive heard it being done and it aint nice :)
