What all purpose detergent do you guys recommend?
Im just ordering some powerburst on your recommendation and thought i would try out a new detergent when im at it.
Cheers guys.

There isn't one detergent that does everything also high ph detergents do clean better but can or will sometimes spoil more delicate things, what are you planning to clean?

I tend to get alot of end of tennancy cleans, so they tend to be some form of cheap synthetic type.
Think i may be getting a bit lazy recently though, looking for those "wonder chemicals" that do all!
Was thinking Prochem Fibre safe gold for the more delicate and was thinking of trying out prochem Double Clean for a bit more of a general detergent.

If you do a test for synthetic and man mades then you can go from one product to another there isn't anything written in stone that you have to use 1 chemical also on trashed wool a high ph product is needed.
You can't beat a bit of training if you haven't already.

Tom do you mean a pre-spray or a detergent to put in the tank of your machine?
Pre-sprays... yes powerburst has a good reputation, craftex champion is also praised highly by some guys but it's real high pH so you need to know you're not going to screw anything up with it. To be honest there are loads of detergent presprays, most are pretty good but they're not the be all and end all of carpet cleaning.
Have you considered detergent free options? It's not all about the ECO factor, I honestly think eco carpet cleaning is a bunch or arse, the amount of energy and non-sustainable resources we use to do our jobs make the cleaning products' impact on the environment absolutely insignificant. Chemspec DFC, Solutions microsplitters and M-Power, Nemesis from restormate, prochem do microsplitter too... they're all pretty effective.
If you do al ot of EOT stuff, it may be the same as the EOT jobs I do.... they only send you in to the minging ones ::) In that case with a portable I'd always be using an in-tank detergent too. Nice and hot, it will give you great results as long as it's combined with a good old pre-spray, agitation and dwell. I've used prochem crystal green and found it pretty good, also ultimate master from alltec. The reason I like the UM is that it self-neutralises so you can clean wool with it too and not have to worry about acid rinsing or browning if you risk it. Just don't exceed the recommended strength, or in a lot of cases work at lesser strength.
The thing I like about a non-detergent prespray and a detergent rinse is it seems like the detergent rinses through and extracts much better. I used that combo for quite a while and have seen some great results but not suffered any callbacks or witnessed resoiling (I've revisited enough jobs to be certain of that)

Eot jobs, trashed synthetics?
Get some craftex champion and some craftex premium clean.

As Shaun says, there isn't a single product that covers all soils and fibres.
Going back to the days when I used detergents, the closest I got to a safe for wool product that was also effective on most domestic and many commercial jobs was Spitfire Advanced. Still not a product for everything though, but the closest I got back then. If you have good heat it will rinse with plain water, otherwise you need a rinse agent.
Safe and happy cleaning :)

Jim- Yeah, for the back of the machine. Have tried Micro split and detergent mix before with great results!
Been using Chemspec one clean for a while in the back of the machine, its soso. Have found fibre safe gold from prochem- looks equivilant to UM. And Double clean for those every day and eot cleans.
What do you reckon?
Have you tried pre spray gold by prochem? Ive heard good things?

I like Chemspecs DFC 105 or 210, very good on wool/blends but not so good on synthetics. powerburst and acidic rinse covers most other things, though I tried pure clean the other day and was pleased with that. There is no magic chemical that will do everything but I do get frustrated with with microsplitters, nemisis/m-power and consistency. Sometimes work great other times disappointing and it would of been better to use luke warm water ???. Love the principal just does not always work for me. of the detergent free i've used DFC is tops so far.
