hi this is my first time posting on the carpet cleaning section so please be gentle!!!!!
i have just bought a woodbridge powermate carpet cleaning machine and dont know how to use it? ::)
this is what is happening, if i put the long hoovering end on it doesnt seem to give any suction but if i put the short attatchment on then it seems to work. but if i lift it off the floor it seem to lose all its presure so you have to put it back down and wait for it to create a vacaum again..
i intend on going on a carpet cleaning coarse after xmas but i bought it for my own carpets and maybe the odd job here and there...think i,ll stick to window cleaning ;D

I think you would be better off waiting until you've done a course.
A woodbridge powermate is not a powerful machine, but is adequate, i
started with one of these 14 years ago, machines have come a lloooonnnnngggg way
since that was designed.

Hi RZ,
I looked for this model but its the older model. Did you purrchase 2nd hand?
I agree you should go on a course. But to use the machine itself just for practicing then no you do not need to go on a course.
Basically you will have controls - Buttons that will turn the motors and pump on and off and a button for a heater to heat the water. Heater vary either inline like a shower or standard heat element. Pros and cons for both.
As I could not find a spec on the machine I will assume it has a basic psi of 70-135. - you may be able to adjust the psi of the machine. But I am not sure on this model. - if you can you may have a presure gauge if not you can purchase an inline presure gauge so you can tell what presuire you are getting. Also helps for adjusting for upholstery fabric.
Now if you are getting suction with the small upholstery tool or stair tool then check to make sure the long hoovering tool known as the wand - is not blocked. - You may also want to check the pipes are not damaged check for holes. If they are this will cause you to lose suction.
Also you will have a lid/cap this has to be on correctly and also make the the drain off pipe is closed. If the cap/lid/ drain off are not air tight this will not allow the machine to build up suction. I have been there working away and wondered why no suction. I have left the lid off or left the drain open.
Also check that the motors are working. - Do you get good suction before attaching the tools and pipes. Turn the machine on and pput your hand over the piupe connector. If so the connect the pipes and check to see if good suction is still available.
Also if you purchased 2nd hand what length of pipe or pipes have you got connected. - connecting a 150 hose wont be any good on a machine like that. Not enough power. - I would have thought no more than 30 feet.
if you require firther advice let me know I will pm you details and I am more than happy to try and talk you through if thats of any help.
Also if you want some tips on what to look for on carpet cleaning I am happy to inform you.
