Over the years people on this forum come and go as no doubt there businesses fail and they lose interest, new names crop up and the old ones disappear. Always seems to happen in 1-2year cycles.
The two names that I have noticed to be solid throughout the duration of this forums life is Mike and Shaun. Everyone else is here today gone tomorrow. Take all the old posters for example, John Flynn, gone. Anyone remember BF Nicky, gone. Paul Turner, gone. There are literally loads and loads of people who fail in this trade.
If I was to invest my money in anyone in this trade, it would be Mike and Shaun.
I know for a fact the new prolific posters at the moment will be gone in a couple of years and a new team of posters will replace these, asking for advise on new machines, bragging about how much they earn and how many jobs they do. It’s all BS to us original people who know what makes this trade tick.
Regards
Pete

-
Mike
20 years ;D
Rather see the countdown girl ;)
-
I predict I will be gone from carpet cleaning in 4.5 years - will be 67 then, think that will be enough for me.
Might hang around the forum a bit longer - annoying a few. ;)
-
I will still be here !
Been going 5 looking forward to another 25 >:( ,might even have a new van one day
-
It's socialising for free, thats why Shaun is addicted. He'd make a great FD ;)
-
time I packed it in then I been posting on here best part of 6 years, yes i seen a few come and go and I also know a few who are still c/c , they just dont bother coming on here , but they are still c/c .

I don't know if to take it as a compliment that you mention that I've been around for ages :-\
most who come and go don't pack in the business they just get fed up with the forums. Take Phil Marlow & Mark Betts they were once big posters but now have faded out but I think they still are carpet cleaning.
I'm still here because I love all aspects of carpet cleaning and more important I have a very thick skin so dont get riled by anyone having a go or not agreeing with me. A lot of good men leave because someone has a go at them and they think "stuff it I can do without this crap"
-
You dont half talk some boxxocks mike!
Clive ;)
-
lets not forget about Dave Ingram or Ken W who has been around on the forums longer than me & the father of the UK forums Paul Elliott who started the first forum we had ( Cleantalk)
-
Why don't you put your money where your mouth is Pete? I'll bet you £500 I'm still a Carpet Cleaner in 2 years time ;D
-
Ok Peter,
As a new postie on this forum; what makes this business tick?
-
Yaeh whatever happened to Ken W?
-
Ken is still around biking and cleaning, don't ask him to help you out when the Manx GP is on.
-
Thank you Peter (I think) myself and Mike and simular we are both thick skinned and if anyone has a go we are manly enough to take it on the chin or have a go back, we also are interested in other techniques. machinery, chemicals and sales, you can't sit still and we don't, we also like to share ideas I have rang Mike loads of times over the years and he is always generous with his time as I would like to think I am if anyone calls me.
John Flynn has now retired I spoke to him this year, I thought Mark Betts had packed it in and gone photographing weddings and naked woman?
Shaun

Silly post if you ask me.... Just cos someone doesn't hang about on the forum doesn't mean they are not in the carpet cleaning business!
-
Please don' bite my head off for saying this but a lot of guys are still around looking in from time to time but are afraid to post anymore because of all the bickering!
-
Shaun's only been on the forum 18 months longer than me. One main differnce is that he's got well over 5000 posts whereas I'm just over 800! :)
Roger
Memo to self:
Must try harder. ;D

Hi Guys,
Peter your a relative newcomer 2006, Shaun and Mike are old hands 2003, I'm a little 'younger' 2004 ;)
Posters come and go as do CC's, one of CIU's strengths is the way it embraces newbies and generally does not talk down to them and the two Yorkshire boys mentioned have certainly been verymuch part of that.
Cheers

Talking of early forums I was looking at some old posts on Clean Talk and thought this picture from Peter Blackburn was brilliant and deserved a new audience. ;D

This is why some people don't quote, why would you want to?

Yep that was why Mark was my real hero not you and Mike

Think Criaig Partridges dad bought Johns Electric Truckmount, not sure who got the rotavac

I haven't posted on here for ages, but I still check it out occasionally and have noticed that I no longer recognize most of the names.
I guess I don't have quite the same interest now as I did a few years ago, but I have just hit 65 and will be hanging up my wand for good in the next couple of months. Twenty five years at this game has taken quite a toll on the old bones, and every time I get a hard job I find myself wondering why the hell I am still at it.
Shouldn't complain though ! its given me a pretty decent living, and not too many headaches !

and every time I get a hard job I find myself wondering why the hell I am still at it.
Bryan
What I plan to do is pick and choose the jobs I want and how often I want to work.
I dont like doing stairs so "bungalow king" here I come.
-
Think thats the beauty of this job joe as long as your in good health as you come up to retirement age you can still choose to work a couple of days a week to subsidise your pension and pay for the little luxurys like nice holidays etc and pick the jobs that suite you.
Regards Andy Locke.

Hey! What about me. October23rd 2003 registered on here just one day after Shaun. Been carpet cleaning 30 years and unlike Joe will still be going full steam for many years yet (Unless something untowards occurs) and I am the same age (63).
Dave.
