People do look at adverts in shops, I do.

For what it costs and the fact the advert can be removed quickly, its got to be worth some of your money.

If you talking general house cleaning NOW would be a good time.
Then after xmas is another good time - getting rid of the xmas tree droppings etc

For the minimal cost it is worth doing. I did this when I started and it got me a lot of good quality customers. Only did shops in affluent areas.

Hi Dash,

As stated for the price to have a leaflet (or mini poster) put up in a shop is minimal and does work-though as john says put them in certain target areas just as you would with leaflets.

Try and target shops in the same areas as you leaflet as it will help propmote your company better and give the potential clients in that area more awareness of you. And agin just as leafleting, put up the poster/flyer every so often in the same shop(s). Alot of places take them down after a few weeks and to make room for new flyers or they just get coverd up with the  latest flyer.

Good Luck

thanks for your replies guys, we have put up few adverts up in shop windows for a period of 6 weeks, and as you all said only targeted specific areas. My new marketing techniques is to target very small close upcommunities, where theres plenty of gossip etc. So did ads in shops, going to put ads in free local magazines and leaflet every 6-8 weeks. See what we will get, but had a bit of problems with our leaflets, still waiting for half to be delivered so pretty much stuck until; we get them.

No

For various things I have had postcards all ovr Norfolk the answer is they work occasionally but you need lots out

Another Usless Marketing Tip

Drop a business card where ever you go some one will pik it up

Another Usless Tip

Where a badge with a Funny Slogan so people ask you what is that about

Another Useless Tip

Ask everybody you meet or comes within 5 yards of you if you can nterest them in having their carpet cleaned

The point I am making all the above work sometimes

But you need to put your energy into the ones that produce the fast results

Like Ian, NO!

People read the ads when going for their Paper and 20 fAgs, but do they have a pen to write down a phone number with?

Buy a van business card holder instead.

If they take a card they have your number, simples!

We have had good response from local/parish magazines.
They all get read and it does not cost a fortune.

People may not have a pen to write down a number which is true, but the name of the company and website can stick in a potential clients mind when seeing the poster/flyer on a regular occasion and a good possibility they may google the name to find out further info (so long you have a website or some of your detail on line).

Other marketing togeter with this and other ideas will help keep you company (subconsiously) in there mind for when they need the service.
