Title: LOCKED OUT OF VAN
Post by: lee_dewing on November 30, 2009, 10:15:48 pm
My lucks all bad at mo

Today after rain had stopped, showed up at custy's turned key in back van door of my ford escort van, heard a snap. (key is fine, reckon could be plastic clasp in lock)

Now locked out of van all equipment in back can't get to :'(

have bulk head behind seat with mesh so can't climb over seats to get to back doors.

booked in at fords tomorrow but frightened what there gonna want to fix this.

anyone got any suggestions, would a locksmith's be an option or is that an expensive way to go.

help

Give me some more details about your van
Year
make & model
engine size

And what have you tried already to gain access?

reach thru the mesh on your bulkhead with a long pole with a hook on the end  to release the door

fords will get the serial number of the van, and then re cut you a new key .

prob be about £150 (if its the ignition starter you need) ::)

or normal key about £50-70

I always carry a spare key (non ignition starter) with me at all times.

Lock shouldn't cost more than £30, easy taking old one out and putting new one in. doddle, diy.

my van is ford escort diesel 75 2001 (51) plate.

It's lock that's knackered on back door.

heard something break as turned key.

thought about putting pole through mesh i.e wfp, decorators pole mesh squares too small.

one of my mates told me common fault on these vans as plastic hook clips around keeps shut;

snaps :'( :'(

Call rac out to get it open if you cant unlatch it from inside? Maybe have toi remove rear door panel if escorts have them? But there will be a lever you can access to unlock it.

Fly to a breakers and do yourself. part will cost a tenner or soo from a brackers, put your lock barre;l in it and re-fit.

Even someone with no skill could do it in a little time with a slight bit of patience.

from what i remember the guy just lifted the latch on the back door .  i just gave him the long bit of wood and it took him about ten minutes to do it .     once you got the door open you can take the trim panel off and see if the little rod has come adrift . i think he made the hole in the mesh  just near the doorway and the bit of wood i gave him stuck out the open drivers door  and that angle made it easy to do it

failing that,a breeze block through the back window should do the trick  :D

I knew someone would say that ;D

With the temps dropping into freezing this will make the plastic more brittle, so it will be a common thing now  :(

Ask the local kids, I am sure they will have it open in seconds.
