Title: Has anyone got a simple website I can copy?
Post by: Tosh on November 28, 2009, 09:50:58 pm
I'm going to have a bash at creating my own website.  My preference is for a simple, but effective website; not pages and pages of text which no-one will bother reading.

Are there any kind souls out there with such a website that I could copy?

Lazy sod  ;D

;D Well, I don't want to reinvent the wheel!  I mean I could just google some websites up and plagarise the best bits of them!

Thanks, Nathan, I'll have a look now.  Cheers.

Added later; its a bit upmarket for what I'm looking for, but there's loads of good stuff in there.  Thanks.

Thanks, Jeff, I've just been stealing stuff looking through it and I like it!  Its certainly entertaining, particularly on the home page.

I just plan to have three, maybe four pages, since I doubt many prospective customers will read through them; I just want to give a (false) impression that we can do 'the job' without any fuss, safely, and don't look too expensive.

I'm not too bothered about ranking high in a google search either, but I'll try to do that; when I find out how its done, but its more just to add to my stationery for my current customers to see our other services, or to stick on flyers or mail shots.

You will be very suprised by who reads what Tosh, If a custy wants another service from you then they will look at the different pages.

When its up and running just swap links with everyone and that will help and get your metatags right.

Metatags are invisible bits of code that search engines often use to index Web sites. These meta tags can help search engines return the most relevant results for a particular search. The two important meta tags are the keyword tag and the description tag.

Meta keywords should be keywords and phrases that your customers would likely use when searching for your page. Each word or phrase, usually between 5 and 10 words, should be separated by a comma or a space.

The meta description should be two to three sentences describing what your Web page is about. Always try to include a keyword or two for best results. When writing your description, remember that some search engines will display it in their search results, so it's important to keep it accurate and appealing.
