Speed camera warning. Is that so people who do more than 5 houses an hour get fined? :)
Watch out Steve (UBA1). They're a-coming to get ya.
-
I dont need one of them. I have been flashed a few times by these cameras and never been fined or anything. Apparently if it flashes twice then you've had it because there is film in the camera. If you get flashed once then its ok because the camera is out of film. I heard this about 5 years ago so I dont know if its the case today, I would have thought that it would go to digital. Anyway I have been flashed a couple of times and got nothing.
You know when you've been flashed cause it lights up the entire area day or night.

You've got a valid point Graham but I recently got a GPS system which calculates when you're going over the speed limit and it's really quite useful. It's not that I do it intentionally but breaking the spead limit is easily done.
I do agree that if you buy these things just so you can put your foot down where you think you can get away with then that's different and simply irresponsible.
Sooner or later there won't be any way round speeding anyway. Has anyone been on the M42 recently? They've now got cameras at every 100m and they calculate how long it has taken you to get from one point to another - a bit like some of the French roads.
One of the best ads I've ever seen is the recent speeding one where a little girls says "hit me at 40mph and there's an 80% chance I'll die. Hit me at 30mph and there's and 80% chance I'll live"
Makes me slow down anyway......

If the current Gov get their way & introduce the pathetic new fuel tax scheme then nobody will be able to speed & get away with it.
They will completely take away our freedom as they will know where you are & when.Lovely.

Dont matter what you all say, dont matter how many meetings you all go to. They will bring in the new fuel tax scheme if they want.
Anyway going back to the point. Speed cameras are to be seen in advance by the driver. That is the law, they even have to have them a special colour so that we can see them all.

Of coarse they'll bring it in cos people say"oh well, They'll bring it in if they want to.Nothing we can do about it."
Anyway,of topic sorry.
-
Cough, cough... I actually agree with Graham here.
How many times have we seen stupid base-ball cap wearing Chavs tearing through a thirty MPH limit; music blasting and just driving like a total bottom?
Is it hard or cool to drive like a lunatic? Of course not. It just shows they're thick as the proverbial planks!
-
It's just an excuse to put taxes up. It always is.
Package it up as something new that's better for those who are affected and before you know it, it all costs more than it did before.
As for speeding, I agree with Graham Gould.
Why speed? Why drive too close to the car in front? I think it's because we feel nice and safe and if we hit a pedestrian then who gets hurt?
If every car was fitted with a large spike that impaled the car driver if they hit something then we'd all drive sensibly.
I hate it when one of the other two I work with is driving. Why not take it nice and easy and just slow down a bit. They moan because I won't do over the speed limit especially on motorways. Having been in and survived (without a scratch) an 85 mph pile up I've learnt a valuable lesson about speed. A high speed accident happens so fast.
How many motorway accidents are caused by speeding and driving to close to the car in front? How many accidents happen when drivers are driving sensibly?
As for drivers using mobiles whilst driving ..................
Right, I'm off my soap box now.

:)Did you know that recent Government legislation changing the Freedom of
Information Act gives you access to speed camera offences registered
within the last twelve months on a freely accessible website?
Did you know that every time your car goes a mile over
the speed limit, it is registered and placed on the database?
They only send a ticket if you are over the alowed excess, OR
if you receive over 20 near misses. You can now check how many you have against your car's registration number.
Check this page: http://www.e-database.co.uk/
It will ask you for a password - but just click on the 'need a password'
link and you'll be given one in a pop-up window. In the top right hand
corner there is a "click-on" window and it even shows the picture taken
by the camera.

Hi all,
Whilst Graham has a very valid point about speeding and its dangers the siting of speed camera is a different issue. Originally most where sited at accident blackspots now the majority spred over the countryside in places which do not fit the above criteria. Once the government and various regional police forces realised the revenue to be generated the growth of the speed camera network has been indiscrimate.
Also several posts have focused on the young chav/gary boy racing his escort with no concern for others welfare, deserving everything they get but speed camera seem to ensnare indiscrimately does the family man/ housewife/retired person take your pick, deserve to have points and a fine for driving slightly over the limit.
Finally most fines for speeding are now linked to income under recent legislation evidence that the cameras are more for revenue than speed reduction.
Almost done now what is this £1.38 per mile charge have been in Lanzarote for a week.
Cheers Mark.

My view is that if I don't want a ticket for speeding, then I don't speed.
It's that simple and forget any type of moral high ground to justify speeding - there isn't any. To say that speed camera's are there for profit is a useless arguement. There would be no profit if drivers wern't speeding would there? Don't speed and it's not as if they are hidden all secret like.
One of the other two I work with bombs between jobs and slams his brakes on for speed cameras and then moans about them forgetting that he was speeding before the camera and then again after it.
I just take things m-e-l-l-o-w when I'm driving.
In a 30 mph area, you don't get done by a speed camera unless your doing over 33 mph (as far as I know).
So how much over the speed limit is ok?
The tax thing to pay per mile is just yet another excuse to put taxes up. We will end up paying more one way or another.
Cheers

No no. You've got it all wrong. The pay as you go driving scheme is because the govt want us all to use less fuel. They are seriously worried that we are all poisoning ourselves with exhaust emissions and they want to rescue us. How dare you think that our saintly, benevolent govt. may have an ulterior motive.
BTW. The rule of thumb for speeding is that you should be OK if you keep within ((speed limit + 10%) + 2MPH). e.g 30MPH - 35 MPH, 50 MPH - 57 MPH etc. However, you can't totally rely on it and it's supposedly only like that to give a small allowance for equipment error. Officially, the police deny that an error margin exists because they are concerned that the higher number will become a de facto speed limit.

im going to drive in reverse ,so the goverment will owe me at the end of the year ;D
