I disagreeesment is that he found the slx cam saga a bit stress full and has had a gutfull of forums.Probably he took his holidayand while he was off the forum for a couple of weeks found his mental outlook improved. It must be disheartening not to know when or from what direction the next attack, diatribe, stupid question, or exagerated complaint is coming from.
Imagine a forum full of your customers malc all making comments like oh by the way you missed a bit on my bathroom cill, and foa malc gold; i've emailed you about my cons roof you charge q tenner can you do it tommorow afternoon.

I don't know how he put up with it as long as he did.

I'm sure i'm right about this. We pretty much all like alex but that doesn't stop us from making his life hell.

I don't really see any way back for him.Victim of his own success. It's probably not just us either, non of our wives like us spending too much time on here and blame any grumpyness on losing an argument on here, plus he's got sis who probably says nice one, read your posts over promising and giving out a load of free stuff again.

I agree ww, but alex is pretty big time.Imagine fifty of us having a go by email or over the phone, then imagine the bulk orders that go off to russia and the states.

Anyone with a conscience is going to feel stressed out with a series of legitimate  complaints over several months. It's not possible to feel no stress when reading about it on the front page every time. I think the slx has presented alex with the 1st major headache on here (the sl1 did a little bit i reckon as well).
A break will do him the world of good.

I could hardly blame Alex for deciding to quit the forum after some of the comments on here.
As for the SL-X, I received both of my SL-Xs back with the most recent clamps.  It feels much better than having to mess about with an allen key - not that I've needed to adjust anything yet anyway.  It's early days but I have a good feeling again about these poles.  I now use this pole with external pole hose.  In order to ensure that it stays well pushed on to the Y piece, I use a slightly larger diameter pole hose than the one supplied.  As I choose to use hoselock style at the other end of the pole hose, I use the black plastic fitting as supplied by Ionics.  These small modifications seem to be what works best for me at the moment.  The perfect pole does not exist as everybody works a little differently but working this way feels OK once  get used to keeping the pole hose clear of snagging.

Get real Alex G has a fan club on here, and usually gets lots & lots of thanks and praise each and every week, compare that to the very few and occasional challenging comments directed to him this amount is insignificant, even though they tend to have more relevance than the pointless constant praise.   ::)

Wow.  Ewan told me to get real   ;D

Have you got one of the older style slx poles with said problems clamps, and have Gardiners replaced your clamps free of charge?

Bob

I have two SLXs.  Both had the old allen key type clamps.  Both have had them all replaced with the latest clamps.  The re-clamping and general servicing for the two poles came to something like £80 IIRC without checking the receipt (I can't recall exactly as I bought a couple of brushes too).
Please note that only one of the poles was bought directly.  The other was bought second hand (with little usage) from another window cleaner.
I do not regard Gardiners as being obligated to replace the old style allen key clamps FOC.  That's just the way they were made at the time.  They worked reasonably OK for a fair while.  I just found the old clamps a bit of a nuisance but they were not actually defective.  Even if it were argued that Gardiners had an obligation with one of the poles (an argument with which I would not agree), this would certainly not be the case with the second hand one I bought.
I got reasonable usage from one pole and rather less from the other before I decided to have them re-clamped.  No complaints from me.  I've always found Gardiners to be a company that is decent to do business with.

It's human nature to wonder though. Some posters that stop like shiner or squeaks you think they'll never stop they must come back.Others like giles, knight, and now gardiner you wonder what went on.

But like wise there have been high end earners on here who have jacked wc to become firemen. What's that all about? ??? "I couldn't see myself, or want to be doing this when i am over forty."

Shiner was my old name.  I fancied a break from it so deleted that account.  I don't want to elaborate on here but there were some very valid reasons as to why I made that choice.  I explained about this elsewhere on the forum some time ago.
Title: Re: Where is Alex Gardiner?
Post by: Clive McDonald on November 28, 2009, 09:10:25 pm
oh, i wouldn't have guessed you to be shiner as your posting style is different.Shiner seemed older and more set in his ways so whatever your catharsis was it has done you good.

I can't see Alex being able to hide in this way, firstly because it would be a bit improbable that a newb would have such technical knowledge, and secondly because of his signature ocd compulsion to answer obscure wfp questions in a painstakingly logical manner.

Of course should he come back i will tell him i was the only one who stuck up for him and the rest of you called him. ;D

He's not that busy because I saw his van parked in the Kings Head car park at approximately 9.00 pm last night, and he certainly wasn't cleaning the windows there!

I suppose if he is to do installations he will have to come back on.The big thing about his poles is that he pushed for the shorter closed length, okay xtel did it first, but to have a 22' with a short closed lenght for grounds and hardly any weight is something that didn't used to exist.

You think why couldn't some of these other pole people have done it sooner? Well i think the reason is they just thought of us as donkeys too stupid to care what we used.My first pole 3yrs ago was a 24' gf universal, it was too heavy to use and remains in my garage roof as an antique.

I'm pretty sure the van installation business will go the same way.Like the shorter closed lenght for a pole it's so obvious that a lower c of g for the mounted water tanks by spreading the footprint over most of the available floor is an easy win and an obvious idiotic miss by the existing installation people.Add a certified crash test and he's more or less home free. He'll cut through this biz the same way he did the poles.

I'm looking for a new installation (i haven't even bought the van yet) but where as in the past i have been diy this time i will get one fitted. I want an 800l or 1000 depending on the van payload.

Agree with you on the last part clive,

I am looking for a new van and tank, am thinking of having custom made once again as monthing on the market from supplies is there, floor tanks sound intersting if they can hold the weight and water usage parked on a hill.  If Alex makes this and releases soon I will have one, but I would have to say I would want this do at the time siad as would cost me moeny, I know Alex has had problems with the spped of huis poles being made and going out, he was up front and maybe to honest on that, but pre sell must have given him nightmares and headaches.

Wuld be a shame if he does not come back, but at the same time it will cost him alot of money if he does not, I would say he will be back as he is not stupid.

You can already get flat tanks with low centre of gravity and custom made tanks. Mine is custom made and is nearly 4 years old.

custom made tanks have been around for ages, i looked at having 1 made to fit the complete floor of my VW T4 ( with a space for the middle seat mounts )
it worked out that the height was going to be about 9" which meant i could put ply on the floor and that would be it, job done

I think Ewans link is a good one.

Mine was fitted by Waterfed Pole System Ltd in Grantham. 600l tank made from welded 10mm polypropylene. It is just a straightforward upright tank but the dimensions were made so it went the full width of the floor in my dispatch to optimize free floor space.

Personally my concern with flat tanks would be problems in pumping water out when it got low and having to fiddle about making sure you e.g. parked up on a kerb the right way round.

As its panto season, does Alex dress up as Widow Twanky down Cornwalls finest palais or is he outside Marks & Spencers dressed as Santa and giving out mini window cleaning kits to all the local wannabe 6 year old potential runny nosed window cleaners who dream of SLX's and VW Transporters.

''Ho Ho Ho. Hello little boy, what do you want for for Xmas?''

''Well Santa,i'd like an 18ft SLX by Xmas please, thats this Xmas you slacker and not the one nearest my 18th birthday''

''Ho Ho Ho,you cheeky little boy, you'll get a clip round the ear if you carry on''

''MUM MUM,Santas going to hit me''

She pulls his beard off

''Thats not Santa, its that fella from Poleland whos moonlighting as Santa instead of getting everyones poles ready by mid November, like they promised''

''Damn, been caught out, best get back to casa de Alex and pull my finger out''

Thats what i reckon anyway.

Was going to say '' Is that a pole in your pocket or are you just pleased to see me'' but i didn't want to get smutty :)

I agree. I'm waiting for a new pole and a van mount myself actually, so my post should be read in jest and not as a personal attack like you seem to think.

I should think he got fed up with people not being able to spell his name correctly.
