Would a 2.8 meter ladder be sufficient to get me going to clean domestic houses - i think the ladder is 9.4ft closed and opens to about 17ft.
The reason why i'm asking is that my dad has a set in his garage and said i can have them.
Daz.
-
sounds like a good set daz, hit the streets as soon as, id say
-
i got 3.5 triple, and wish i had gone for smaller 3 meter ones, they are bloody massive, one section nearly reaches first floor windows, and they weigh a fair bit too,2.8 should be fine for the majority of houses
-
they are great on council houses but might be a bit short on some windows, when i used 2.8 i also had a pair of 3.6 as well
-
I'll see how they go - i've also ordered some ladder mitts.

we dont use mitts around here ,we take the rubbers out of the top and stick pieces of wood in which stick our 9 inch, also use spikes on the ladders

Is that better to do using wood?
-
the wood has always worked for a lot around here ,never seen any one with ladder mitts, the other advantage is you get a bit extra height with the ladder

oh right - so i just take out the rubber top ends and insert the wooden pieces - do you have a picture of it?
-

as soon as it stops raining ill go out and take them

the wood in these are about 7 inch sticking out if you do them to long you can chop them down after, they start off square at the top but wear away to a slope
-
these are my spikes what have been made for me,
-
another view

cheers for that - they look pretty cool - do the wooden tops sit against the window sill

just use them as a normal ladder, some jobs on the sill other jobs just below, great for cornering a window as the top rung is father back so it doesnt sit on the corner and rock the same
-
looks good , im going to try the wood sometime . iv just got a bit of bike inner tube on the ends at the minute ,the wood looks good, hardwood most likely >
-
hard wood probley best but i put in soft wood as it was handy
-
ah okay , i guess i will just use softwood ,it looks like its taken ages for it to wear on your ladder anyway . my spikes are different to yours but yours look simpler and better
-
that ladder is 2 year old,its a 3.6 metre so its not used all the time, the spikes were made and not bought, some are over 20 year old as i take them off when the ladder is knacked and put them on the new ladder but i use new nuts and bolts
-
well my ladder mitts came today and they seem ok, but still might try the wood.
-
I use ladder mitts and find them very good. Bit of a pain sometimes wiping the ledge, cant do it in one swipe. But learn how to put them, And they are very very firm.
With regards to the metal spikes, are they ok on concrete? What about soft decking?
Can see the concept, if they work all the time can imagine them to be more secure than the plastic base...
-
spikes are ok on concrete but if its that pressed shiny stuff you need a crack,ok on decking if its laid the right way you can get the spike in a groove, i tried the feet on the ladders last year but soon swopped back to spikes
