Title: cleaning a school
Post by: neil davies on November 25, 2009, 09:43:34 pm
Hi went today to price up a job at a school, thay want it done 3 times a year. and i worked it out on a hourly basis, working very hard all day and worked it out as 45hrs work for 1 man, thinking of putting 2 men on it to stop the stress, how much per hr would you recommend to charge this school as i want to make a decent profit not just get by, the company who cleans it at present is based around 100miles away, so they must be charging a rate to make it worth their while. Any suggestions on this matter will be very appreciated. Thanks

I used to do a few big contracts for ISS mate, they are nationwide over here. All I can say is, just because a firm are 100 miles away don't mean diddly. They take jobs on and reckon on taking a subby to do it so distance is not a factor on price every time.
An example of working out a rate per hour is, how much do you normally earn on your every day jobs. Go from there perhaps. To be honest, there are lots of ways of working out what you need to earn, and what you can get away with.

Not a brilliant answer, but at least a point to think about. Hope it helps.

I got asked to quote for a small school day centre by a neighbour who was teacher there.  Had a look, gave the chat, she said large company quoted her £75 which was too much so quoted her £35.  Job was mine..... took 35 mins.  all on ground level so no ladders.  I would say charge more than domestic but not quite as much as commercial.  Check if you need CRB check as working on a school with kids, which will cost but lasts a few years.

I don't see why its hard to price, you say it will take about 45 hours, lets say thats about a weeks work  so just price it on what you are happy to take home in a week.
