I can still remember the first job I ever lost back in 1991 or 1992. It was a bog standard semi with a conservatory. I even remember that I charged £5.50 for it. In fact, I can even remember them saying that they were cancelling because their son was returning and he would be doing the window cleaning. It probably sticks in memory because it was the first.

Got £20.00 worth of work today flyers/doorknocking got home letter in post from custy stop cleaning my windows
as my husband will do it from now on his lost his job last month this was a £20 monthly clean I think all w/c businesses should allow a day for marketing new business to replace what they lose.

Ah gotcha. You've done well then. I started losing work due to recession some while back. Gained as much as I've lost though.

I do gardening aswell and In the last couple of years ive lost 4 or 5 of them, 1 moved to a smaller place (id been there 6 years 6 hrs pw),another a pensioner neighbour started to take over and my hours dwindled off (started off at 4 hrs pw about an hr in the end wasn't worth it) another one id been there 7 years asked to borrow my ladder for some guy to use to finish painting some windows i started (that pi**ed me off so i didn't go she would usually have phoned me if i didn't turn up the next week a year and a half now haven't heard from her i guess she wanted me to go) there was another couple i lost for various reasons.I always did a good job quite cheap but i just guess they ran there course.I feel ive been let down it's made me have no faith in customers.Ive had 2 calls for window cleaning today from leaflet drops, ive even got a problem with one of them i cant understand him on the phone and ive got to quote when he's out tomorrow ive just sort of got his address so i hope i find the right house.

as said,
If you don't take some time to get new work then you are at danger of losing out.
when i first started out every custy was so precious.
no matter how long you been going it's not nice too lose a custy and i use to worry about keeping as many custie's in a road, and keeping my round the same.
my round will constantly change, but i'm trying to make it for the better.
One of my custy's is a handyman been doing that for 3yrs since he got made redundant from his decorating job, he was doing nicely and stopped advertising in local paper.
then the work started drying up from begining of this year, now he says he can't afford to advertise.
I mentioned why don't you knock up some leaflets on your pc and put through some doors,
get things going.
he said he dosen't like cold calling ::)
sorry gone off waffling.
sorry to hear about your causalties ninja, we all get it, sounds like you've been around quite a while i'm sure you've seen recessions come and go. ;)
