Title: Machine servicing
Post by: coyote7 on November 23, 2009, 10:13:13 am
Morning Guys,

Just wanted some thoughts on how often you get you porty's serviced? I have had mine just over a year now and have been very disiplined in cleaning and everything seems fine ;D. Jets are good, vacum still strong, no leaks etc etc. I am getting a p.a.t test done tommorrow should I be doing anything else ::)
All replies welcomed and appreciated

Hi Rich,

Open up the machine and do visual checks on all of the wiring.  Look out for any wires that a barem loose spade connectors. Check the main flex cable & plugs. Check that all hoses are clamped on nice & tight. Check that the water pump & vac motors are secured to the unit.  Check the brushes on each vac motor. vacuum out any dust inside that houses all the internal parts. Make sure cooling fans are working ok & are free from dust. Personally i would do all these checks every month.  I would also carry a spare vacuum motor & water pump on the van along with a basic tool kit that you would need to carry out any repairs whilst on site. Incluse in the tool kit a volt meter, PTFE tape and spade connectors.

Get a spare vacuum and pump and have them ready for when they fail.

Better to buy them now than wait for when they do fail (which they will) and then try and order them.

You will have less down time; as such you will pay for them now but generate more t/o by being back on the road more quickly then.

Your actually better buying them now and fitting them NOW, keep the old ones as spares, as the warranty on new motors begins to expire as of delivery !

True Glynn and thanks for pointing that out.

But how often do people claim under the warranty?

When I used to use portables each machine went through 2 X vac's and at least 1 pump each machine, each year. And these were well looked after.
