Hi guy's, well took on my first member of staff just a couple of weeks ago,she was actually recommended to my hubby by some friends of his,so i thought ok she sounds perfect just what i need. I went to see her in her home which wasn't exactly very clean to say the least but she looked respectable,so i thought ok don't judge her on how she lives we all live differently so decided to take her on. Now it's only 3hrs30 a week at the moment she has another job (also cleaning) Anyway she's working along side me but for two occasions now she hasn't worn her polo shirt which i provided saying she hasn't had time to wash it,now she works 2hrs on a sunday and 1hr 30 on a tuesday so i don't know what she's playing at. The 2hr contract is a once a week clean which i was hoping to pass onto her for her to do herself,but the people there called after last weekends clean to say they weren't too happy with certain areas, i had a word with her today but she wasnt too bothered and again left the same things i'd just pointed out to her, it's not a hard job at all  infact it's a doddle.
Any advice would be appreciated i know it's nothing major at the minute with her but if she turns up on tuesday without her poloshirt on am i within my rights to refuse to take her on the job with me? I have given her a contract which states she's on a trial period..Thanks for any advice..Pauline

The fact you've written about her on here shows you've got doubts so tell her she does as asked or sack her :'(

have a chat with her to say you are not happy but you must record this by ways of a letter of concern just listing the bullet points you have discussed this will make things more simple if you decide not to keep her on, even with her on a probationary contract its best to have everything on record

I would send her home until she is prepared to wear the T-shirt. After all its PPE. ;)

When you start a new job you are usually eager to please and try quite hard to make a good impression so if this is only a wee while after she has started i'd say send her packing as this behaviour will only repeat and you could lose customers over it.....

Funny I sacked 2 people last week for being lazy twats

Very tempted to sell off a lot of my work and just go back to me and a van

Hi there, she turned up today wearing her poloshirt, and i must admit she did work alot better alongside me, but i don't think she's ready to work alone she might do for the other cleaning company she works for but not for me until she reaches the high standard i work to,i don't want to be too hasty with her as she was recomended for her work so maybe she takes time to get going... Her review will be in 3 months as it's a 3 month trial basis. As you say Dreamclean 2.5 million need jobs so you would think people would be giving that bit extra to keep the boss happy....Anyway i will be patient or at least try to be and we'll see how she goes,thanks for replies guys..Pauline

dont forget it is your business, dont employ any body who doesnt come up to your standards,  i use to do that in  a previous business (plumbing) and it cost me thousands

have a simple rule,   would you let this person clean your house and be happy with the results[

because you can not be there all the time, and if you got to be, whats the point of her,

give her 1 shirt for every day of work,  that way they have no excuses,  ie most 5

but how can you expect someone that is simply an employee to be as thorough as the owner? i know that i have high standards but thats because i have put a lot of time into the business, and know how valuable each and every customer is. however my employee who is earning far less then me in the long run (at the momet i don't really earn anything) who is working for me because he/she didn't want to do the extra work involved in running a business, will never be as thorough. ok maybe some will be, but most wont.

however as people have said, the first few weeks are when most are at their best, and if this is her best then it may be worth getting rid of her.

what i meant was would you be happy with her standard of cleaning, rather then is she as thorough as you,  becasue like grren said, no one works as hard as you

Get rid of her , judging by your statement above it seems that interview stage has been shortened, why take someone on because a friend says they are ok.

This woman doesn't respect you or you business get rid before she harms your reputation and bank balance.

NEVER mix family, friends with your business!!!
Did you interview this lady before you decided to employ her?
I interview in their homes, if it's not up to what you would expect, then I wouldn't touch her with a barge pole!!!
Personally I would dismiss her, purely for the reason you have no confidence in her!!! You will be permanantly worrying.She could loose you the contracts that you have drawn blood sweat and tears for!! - That's a not go!!!

Not an expert in the cleaning world (yet !)

however I have employed lots of people over the last 10 years and when I get into a situation such as yours always ask myself 1 question

"Would I employ this person today knowing what I now know?"

Answer is always a BIG FAT NO ..... my advice is to bin her (no pun) .. your business ... your reputation ... your customer ... your destiny.

HI Guys, Thanks for all the replies, i did sack her before christmas,and from now on i know i can trust my "gut feeling " about a person.I did interview her in her home and lets just say it wasn't the best but i thought don't judge a book by it's cover and we all live differently and all that,but i know now that my instincts are pretty much spot on...Lesson learnt as i said i'm new to this employing lark and i'm sure i've plenty more lessons coming my way too..Pauline
