Title: Need to produce more water!
Post by: KINGAKNAA on November 20, 2009, 11:05:00 am
As the title says, I need to produce more water. I currently run a 100gpd ro with DI which fills a 210 litre water butt overnight. I have taken on more work so now need to produce double that.

My options as I see it is to upgrade with another membrane or to run a booster pump. I am currently running at about 50psi, the cost would be similar for both.

Any ideas on my best course of action?

cheers

Hi go for broke and get a 4040 system(larger)Future proof yourself.
Initial layout is a bit large(6;7 hundred)but very worth it in the end .

Wouldn't it be simpler to either get another water butt or a larger IBC and run your existing unit for longer.  If you upgrade your ro, you will need a larger container anyway.
I fill my van 500L and 1000L IBC over the weekend and then just top up the IBC during the week

Thanks for the replies.

I wish I could justify buying a 4040, but not at the moment. Sometime down the line hopefully.

I have just set up another butt and connected them, I am not working at the weekend so will keep it running.

I still have the problem of producing more water when both butts become empty!

I'd upgrade and add another membrane, then at a later date add a pump.
And if I needed more I'd add another membrane again.
I started with a 100gpd, when I'd finished with it it ended up being a 300gpd.

Thanks Dilligaf, I like the idea of producing less waste too.

The cheapest I can find is from redhat diving on ebay for £40 delivered.  ;)

Just buy a 1000 litre IBC and leave your current RO running 24/7

There only 1m x 1.2m, I wouldn't imagine it'd take up much more room than your 2 water butts

what?

that doesn't make sense! Do you want to produce more water or not?

If yes, then there is your justification..  ::)

Get the ibc tank and run what you have 24/7 - upgrade your membrane to a 150gpd. I think this is the largest single membrane (small casings). Then when you can afford, buy anothe 150gpd membrane & casing and add to your existing.

Thats the easyest way without spending alot

Thanks for the reply GWCS, yes I want to produce more water, but not at the expense of £6-700 as stated in the post. If I can produce more water by upgrading the membrane for £50 I think at the moment that is the better route.

I think I will be looking into an IBC coupled with another membrane. Thanks for all the help.  ;)

ok then so you chose the wrong word.

justification is not the word.. afford would have been more appropriate.

yup get a bigger or more storage tanks and put production into a 24/7 thing (if your current system can cope with that).
