Title: Which canvassing companies?
Post by: colley614 on November 18, 2009, 11:38:49 pm
Hi Guys,

I just wondered if there are any canvassing companies that have been used that come recommended?

I've heard a lot of bad news with these companies but never found any that come recommended. I have used roundbuilders in the past but they aren't responding to my emails so I just wondered are there any other canvassing companies that have done a good jobs for any of the guys on here?

Thanks.

gd roundbuilders seem to be building up a good reputation will be trying them out for a day in the next few weeks
spoke to the guy on the phone he sets you up for say £150.00 worth of work charges £ 300.00 plus travel costs around £30.00. For example he will come to your area on say a Friday and canvass a days work ready for you to clean on the Monday.

If your happy with the first batch of houses then simply give him a call to come up and repeat the process he seems to know how to price the jobs.

Really glad to hear that one of these companies is getting good press! I've always like the idea of canvassing companies and I'd love to start using one on a regular basis.

www.gdrb.co.uk

I usually book up  a week or so in advance so try to give me as much notice as you can

first rule here people is he doesn't have a landline or address on his website ::) ???

who would you give out a bundle of cash to someone they don't know or can get hold of?

So many people have been led down the garden path with canvassing companys i think it would be wise to at least know who your dealing with before handing over any money!!

I have been down the road of people building business for me,paul bass and his team were one of them, another from kent...dont waste your money is my honest answer.
Ok there will be some who get a good deal from them, but i have a list here in front of me of people who used various canvassing companies and have been, well in effect ripped off.
I do not know anything about GDroundbuilder, but as previously stated why no landline, why no business address details. This is how to attract negative comments,no matter that you seem to have done a good job for those few on here that praise your efforts,it is very worrying that people would use the services of anybody that cannot/will not divulge contact details.
So come on GDroundbuilders, you say you have worked hard at building good customers relations, well how about going the whole hogg and giving out contact details (preferably on your website),that way you have satisfied new potential customers and sceptics like myself who have felt the wrong side of the canvassing business.

life is about risk.
i used gdroundbuilders after they was recomended on this site.
iv used them once and  the results have being good so iv booked them again for a day in december.surley best to go for people being recomened than to just pik a number out off the phone book.

I remember once working with a canvassing company. The canvassers got some work for a window cleaner, but the window cleaner never paid them.     So the canvassers went round to some of the customers and explained that they had been cheated, by the window cleaner. And could they not let the window cleaner clean their windows.  ( I think asking to much, but they tried it).
Anyway. They asked me to clean the houses they got back.

I cleaned three of them. The first one said I cheated him, because he as a window cleaner already ???.
The second one refused to pay me. :o  Saying I was cheating business out of their window cleaner.
The third one, after talking to the customer about how the canvasser had been cheated by the window cleaner not paying. (which the canvasser already should of explained).  Then asking the canvasser to call the customer again to explain again. Which he did not.
Any way, to cut a long storey short, It turns out in the end, that the canvasser had given me the wrong address to start off with. The house had not even been canvassed by them. It was done by a different window cleaner all together.  Making me feel like a right tosspot.

I still cannot believe they tried to de-canvass a round. Their maybe bad canvassing companies out their. But their are some bad window cleaners out there too.

George,I think you will find that when selling goods or services online you fall under the distance selling regulations which state that you must provide on your website of your name and address, goods and/or services provided along with a host of other details.
So you can see that webistes that give full details provide a much safer experiance for the consumer, whether selling goods or services is not the point,it is if after the job has been done the consumer can get directly in touch is the important issue.
I have dealt,as previously stated with a couple of canvassing companies that appeared to do the job well...but unfortunatly this was not the case, causing misery for me and a lot of sceptisim as well.
Good luck with your business,i truely mean that, but the more open you are with your details the more you will be trusted by prospective customers, after all if you are running a professional business then what is the problem with providing professional details?
Title: Re: Which canvassing companies?

But surely the fact that I have been doing this for months means its very unlikely that I am going to suddenly turn into a rip off merchant???

the best con artist will always gain the trust of the victim until they can take what they want ;)

why not just put your address and a landline on your website then it will show you are more trustworthy than your sounding right now ::)

George i can understand what you are saying, but there are many wc's out there who are threatened by other wc's and it is all blab mate.
You have kind of moved the goal posts now to make others feel sorry for your predicament, but the point being raised is that it is a legal requirement to give full details...would you buy goods or services from an online company that never gave proper contact details?
Anyway as said before,i do wish you every success.
Title: Re: Which canvassing companies?

I dont want or need my home address online, its that simple...

I have been threatened with violence a few times in this game from rival window cleaners and I am certainly not going to bring it to my front door...

For the people that dont like it I am sorry but its not going to change, all my customers are my references.....

Dean Taberner will stand up for me and he is a part time police man, surely that must make the real people realise I am not a con man!!!

thats a load of nonsense ::) i have had bad experiences with customers but they still know where i trade from

I know a guy that had a bad experience with you from my neck of the woods so some wool pulling sounds like its going on here ::)

how can people be expected to hand over cash to a company they know naff all about! It stinks frankly!!! >:(

i don't know your in's and out's i can only gage by whats been said.

The problem is so many people on this and other forums have had issues with canvassing companys and have been ripped off somewhere along the line

If your straight then you have nothing to hide by being straight and running your business like any other!

Its buyer beware in any walk of life but my references with your peers would stand head and shoulders above anyone elses.....

i think all so called canvassing company's should be banned from these forums as so many have lost money it makes my blood boil!

So why the massive opinion on something that is not relevant to you??

been there, done it bought the T-Shirt

I've spent about 12 grand with canvassing company's in the past. I kind of accepted the way it worked. Until i got my own and realized what a load of poop it really was.

My main reason for voicing my concerns is a lot of guys have been ripped off from knocking company's and for a company not list addresses and telephone numbers when cash transactions take place is plain wrong.

I know a guy that lost nearly 3 grand.

i very nearly lost a good 1500 but i was wise to it and never handed over the cash until i got to the bottom of it. my instinct was correct

Ewan i am fully booked up so its not difficult....

Steve i have worked for many window cleaners so to come out and slate my service without knowing me and what I do is totally unfair....

This started out as a positive thread yet is still turned negative by people that dont even know me...

I notice you never retackled the concept situation lol, you just ignore the bits that dont fit your arguement.....

it only started because you persist about being hidden in your dealings

steve cm i think u should shut the fuc? up until u have tryed and tested the company u cant make judgement on any 1 until u have met the people and worked with them.
i have met gd roundbuilders only once and to me they  have a living to make therefore they need a good reputation to make a living and need to be trusted. at the end off the day if they was no good i think they would soon be poop on on this site and no 1 would use them.so y not take him up on is offer a try him.until u do shut the fuk up

GDroundbuilders I think if you don't want to list your address on your website I think you should ask all the guys who you have done work to give you some testimonials so you can put them on your website. I think you need to understand that a lot of guys have been ripped off from canvassing companies in the past and that reputation is going to be hung round your neck until you prove to the guys that you are indeed somebody who truly believes in what they are doing.
Title: Re: Which canvassing companies?

You still wont comment on the concept situation Steve, I am true to my word...

i'll let simon comment on that. I don't know the ins and outs. I know he wasn't very happy

My gripe that led to all this is any reputable business would have an address on their site. A lot of canvassing companys have done the dirty before and have not given a second thought to the wc they are ripping off. I think you should add it.
Title: Re: Which canvassing companies?
Post by: MSTAV on November 22, 2009, 12:15:25 am
honestly though lads why on earth be a mug and  pay a canvasser 2000 for a 1000 of work so what if its guaranteed for 2 months these canvassers arnt thick they know it takes a good 6 months to a year to sort the good from the bad so they will brag that they have a retention rate of 80 percent but after 6 months you could find yourself in a hole,

weather you have used this guy or other canvasing companys out there. How hard is it to put an add on gumtree to find your own and pay just 500 for 1000 of work and not be a mug.
I only say this because thats how these canvasing companys find there staff to help them rip us cleaners off. i was an arse hole i charged 2 cleans and paid the canvassers half a clean and on average earned a monkey a night for myself after the lads were payed. Trust me we are prey for canvassing companies.
Title: Re: Which canvassing companies?
Post by: colley614 on November 22, 2009, 12:18:39 am
No worries mate. I think your main problem is the reputation that has been left for you to deal with in the first place. I would like to think that there are going to be some canvassing companies that window cleaners can trust. I also think you will get a few window cleaners venting the frustrations with previous companies at you but I feel that with the reputation that you are building yourself at the moment you will be the guy who can kill this stigma
Title: Re: Which canvassing companies?
Post by: colley614 on November 22, 2009, 12:25:57 am
When I work out what I'm spending at the moment on advertising and I see what canvassing companies charge I would rather pay a canvassing company once a month as it would probably treble the work I get in at the moment pound for pound. I personally wouldn't spend thousands in one go but instead I'd like to pay it over a few months so if it wasn't working out I could cancel or if it worked out well I could keep booked more canvassing.

f your only pulling in 125 to 175 you and your team must be pretty rubish. And i gave up canvassing and am being honest for the shiners. At least you agree its ripping people off. Justify how you qualiify to earn 400 a night working 2 maybe 3 hours?. Tell me thats not ripping people off. As i said before you are useing this forum for bait not to advise people or help..just to earn easy pound notes.

I was simply stateing why pay 3 times more than you need to. Wezzy im not trying to argue. Its like pds..they charge 3.5 cleans for canvassed work. Trust me they see us comeing. Easy targets.

steve do u not think regular new customers are worth 2 cleans?

of course they are

but there is more to it than that

are the well priced
do they want a wc'er or a quote
do they want a regualr service and not a one off
what is the access like
what is the area like

its to easy for canvassers to sign up people and pull the wool over the wc'ers eyes.

all these issues are real, but are all dealt with. I will work to any pricing structure and they are all booked in for regular cleans. I always sort good access and choose good areas, as the areas are always decided between myself and the window cleaners.....

i understand that's what the problem was with simon

the pricing from what i gather

GDroundbuilder you still haven't grasped it have you?
As a wc when i look for new customers i have monitored that the majority have responded better to advertising that shows permanent contact details ie. home/business address, email address and landline telephone number.
I have also gone down the route in the past of a leaflet with just a mobile number...vastly differant results....why
Simple really isn't it....not rocket science, just common sense.
If you wish to build your reputation on forums like this, which is obviously a good place for you to do it,you must take the knocks from people who have seen and been ripped off by less than scrupulous companies portraying to do professional canvassing.
We have been there and done it,a few times now,and unless i(and many others i am sure) can see that a company is totally up front and honest about basic business details then i would give a wide bearth to them.
I am sure you dont need people like me anyway, and as said i hope you are successful in your business because that will benefit other wc's,but you will allways be gunned down on open forums from people who have had bad experiances.Remember we can offer just as much advice why not to use a canvassing company as you may be able to offer advice as to why they should use you.
Of course this could all be shot down in flames if i log onto your website and now see full contact details as required.

Ive just missed motd re-run reading this thread,

Its quality,

The thing i found with george and when ive door knocked myself is that when cavvassing there are many people who say they dont need you, you then pass a card on and wish them a good day.

What happens then is you clean in their area and soon after that the people who have previously said no eye you as a decent cleaner and come out to ask you to clean theirs.

What im saying is these canvassing companies are doing much more than just getting you the work, they are infact knocking on 100s and 100s of doors and promoting your company FREE OF CHARGE and only charging you for the work they get on the day. NOT they work you pick up after.

Thats something for all the doubters to think about.

Anyway, off to clean now believe it or not...ive got 3 lidls to do befor this afternoons beerfest :P

I think the poll is starting to speak for itself.

I never wanted to 'slate' anyone as its been said. But as previously said about basic contact details. You want to portray yourself as a reputable company in a line of business that has been iffy for a lot of others then you need to put your cards on the table.

Until then put up or shut up.

And wezzy lets get of the subjects of wives cause i just off yours. ;D

I am also very traceable from my website and mobile number by the police.....

What you sceptics fail to recognise is that one of my biggest supporters on here is a policeman, do you think he would back me up if he had the slightest doubt????

most coppers are bent anyways. what does that tell ya!

bent how steve?! lol

 :-\

do all roundbuilders provide invoices?

why do they not answer phones or return calls?

why do they have a couple of different mobiles?

do they replace you work that isn't as stated, such as 4 weekly, accessible etc etc?

do they work to your guidelines or theirs? after all, YOU are employing them...

we are all big enough and ugly enough to make our own decisions, i made a mistake in trying to use roundbuilders, fortunately i didn't spend a huge amount of money in the end, but in my experience, i tried to contact 6 "roundbuilders", 2 of which contacted me back eventually, 1 of which said he doesn't work with people he doesn't like, yet claims he went out and tried to get some work, yet my minimum £10 was too expensive...so, which is it?! lol. maybe mk was too hard as its saturated with w/c's. the other roundbuilder, well, came, did some work, lied to me, got me crap quality work, and well, thats that!

make your own minds up, but don't complain when you get burnt...i complained when i got burnt lol, so dont bother, youve been warned :D

GDroundbuilders, when are you booked up until?
Title: Re: Which canvassing companies?
Post by: outdoor restore on November 28, 2009, 10:47:20 pm
I dont book up for weeks in advance as peoples plans change, but I do have a regular group of cleaners that I work for, I am only looking for one or two more cleaners over the winter months so if anyone is SERIOUS about building their business drop me a line......

I say serious as had a few people mess me around this week.....

I was expecting a phone call from you on Monday as per your email last Sunday, even tried to call you Monday afternoon on the mobile number from your website but couldn't leave a message

1)Do you cover the north west?
2)Would you accept payment after round is cleaned once?
3)How much do you charge?

We normally get between £125 and £175 in a day, if a customer cancels before the first clean I will replace it, if its before the second clean I will replace half the value.

Sorry for another question....
When you say replace do you mean refund or canvass another house?
