I supply the work clothes and high vis,  steel toe capped boots to staff as covers all safety issues, the boots are not the best in the world but I do my bit, they are welcome to replace these with more expensive or comfortable boots should they wish to.

Its the employers responsibility to supply ALL PPE and make sure the employee knows how to use it correctly.
Gloves, glasses, boots, kneepads, hard hats, Hi-vis vests, waterproofs,.. even sunscreen.
I think its technically a requirement to have handwashing facilities with hot water too.

i provide shirts, waterproofs, thats it

i figure they can provide footwear, gloves if they want them etc

however my lad is part time so if full maybe a bit more

but i wouldnt go overboard

the most i was ever given in the past was a company polo shirt

if yo lost it you bought a new one

and all the sizes were xl

i took my lad out to the shop and fitted him out in 2 pairs of everything he needed
