As I've said in the other post mate, depends on where you want to go and how you build your work. It's a "Must" for me, but from what I've seen on this forum about UK, I would say not as important as some think. By the way, I'm trad  ;)

Over in the UK Pingu, it was ruled by Defra in March this year that in a case of a hose pipe ban, WFP window cleaners HAVE to resort back to tradition methods.
So what will these guys do if they cant clean windows in the traditional way?

Perhaps leather and scrim should make a comeback prior to using rubber? perhaps Level 1 then say in 6 months after an assesment by the Master of the wheel tappers and shunters club level 2 could be trialled but only when under direct supervision of both great grandparents and their respective parents.

Its should not make that much difference what someone uses...why is it punching your buttons so much?

Tommorow I shall go out and clean my allotted number of houses and I will achieve my target amount of money..come wednesday I will be having a couple of days in a nice hotel in Amsterdam being a tourist...and whether you, I, the Turkish guy who gives me evils when we both clean houses in the same street use trad, wfp , the tops of their head who cares.

Clean the window, clean the house get paid move on repeat on next cycle.

It's just window cleaning...nothing more...the important bit is being a good business.

Cheers
Dave.

Its like a bricklayer that can only build a straight wall, what would he say to the customers, sorry I cant build corners or pillars. its a trade!
To be classed as a tradesman in my eyes you need to be able cover all disciplines of your trade.

So with that 'given' how would you best rig yourself for say a 'skyscraper' type building or 7th floor windows?..etc, etc, etc..

Have you kept your paper work upto date for cradle work, towers oh what about cranes?

Dave.

I have the required paperwork for MEWP's and Scissor lifts!!
I am also looking at an absailing course for next year!
Absailing is by far safer than cradles!

Sorry..not being rude..personally I do not care it makes not a jot of difference whether you agree, disagree...

I could drop all my trad type work tommorow and it would not make very much difference to me or my business...I can use trad to a resonable level but am I fast no, am I the best no...can I do a reasonable job for the type of work I have...YES.

I suspect that many will agree and disagree but at the end of the day it is not a requirement to be 'a window cleaner' useful YES but absolute NO -  to me

..so it is not an absolute.

Dave.

The hose pipe ban is for personal, but Defra ruled that WFP window cleaners fall into that category as well.

The reason they gave was the wording of the H&S ruling, stating that ladders should only be used after all alternatives have been ruled out. So Defra ruled that WFP window cleaners can go back to traditional methods.
it was a large meeting with solicitors etc.

Trad is an essential skill,.. there are so many times where it is necessary for me I wouldn't have half my business if I was wfp only. I'm 95% WFP by the way,.. but some internal work is a requirement of a couple of contracts, and I actually find the wagtail faster than WFP on some shopfronts etc.

Matt,.. Abseiling safer than cradle? That true?

I used to abseil a bit,.. scary stuff compared to MWEP work IMO!

This is all a bit 'itchy' for me..we all clean windows..some do using their prefered weapon of choice some will use tools from the 'dark-side' on occassion...but in all cases we do the same thing.

So with all the goodwill in the world...good luck to all fellow window cleaners..

A little verbal light sparring in the evening does you good ;D ;D

Cheers
Dave.

Most cradles are not serviced due to cost etc.
So in my eyes Abseiling is safer.
