Seems to be a lot of hand car wash sites around does anyone on here have one? or what do you think of them? are they costly to man etc etc. I have been thinking of looking for a pitch to use as a car/van wash and also use it to advertise our other services. Wonder if its like the burger bars tho where you step on someones patch n get your legs broke :-\

i think I read somewhere ....dont they have to comply with water retrieval requirements these days?

I have a hand car wash situated in a shopping centre carpark, have been trading for 4 years now,
Things have got harder with numerous car washers cropping up and offering valets at silly prices.
We are for ever correcting jobs done by some of these sites.
Just come in after a hard days work, the lead up to Xmas should be busy for us given the footfall expected.
Hard graft two of us work on site and have a school boy in at weekends.
We use the site to offer other services gutter cleaning. pressure washing etc

Hi gutterman, does advertising at your carwash generate much business for your other services? Do you have to comply to water retrieval regs? thnx
-
We pay for supply and discharge of water on our site, at one point a recycling plant was to be installed but this didnt materialise due to costs.
We supply airfreshners will all our services available and we have generated plenty of work thru the site.
We hand out flyers and have advertising boards on site.
We have a captive audience - so do a good job then ur foot is already in the door
Regards

Thnx for the info, I will contact the local council to see what they have to say
about water etc

Car wash can be profitable business only if you have right location, hard and fast working staff. There is a car was close to my place and friend of friend worked there. He told me they do 100-120 cars per day, about 60% of people go for in and out option.(£14-£18) They take about £1000-£1500 per day leaving owner with about £500 profit per day
I contacted few shopping centres in my area but they only want big companies to run valeting/washing in car parks

so you have to ask council to open a car wash? how else do you have to asked to do this ? i have a site in mind that is on a busy road with motorway and warehoues near.

hi there
we have several sites by us, the majority being in defunct petrol stations,
these sites already have interceptors installed, and would be emptied regularly of the contaminents, oil etc.
the sites are predominately staffed by our european friends, they work extremely hard and do a good job, family size car, inside and out £10.00, with the sites being open 7 days a weeks nearly 12 hours a day.
someone has struck it lucky with this concept, and is doing very nicely.
a lot of the money is being sent back home, so good luck.
the supermarket and shed car park operations seem to be a variation on this theme.
regards
martin

Disused petrol stations seem the best bet if they have a discharge thingy already in place, no shortage of workers from far afield in the Brum area wonder if they know min pay is £1.50 per shift :o
