I have just purchased a water softener kit from pure freedom. The tds reading in my area is approx 200 which means the softener will need re-generating every 1000ltrs.
Do I have to replace the salt and softening resin?

The tds is not a measure of the hardness of the water.

Ok I'm confused now. ???
Pure freedom website says that with a tds reading of 100, the softener will treat approx. 2250 ltrs of water.

Not sure what kind of softener it is but mine is set on its regeneration cycle according to the hardness of the water. Your water company should be able to provide this information.
tds does not measure the hardness of the water. It measures the TOTAL amount of impurities dissolved in the water. Calcium is responsible for hard water but tds does not measure the level of calcium in the water individually.
