whats the best way to tell if a carpet is dry clean only?? ???

Clean it the normal way. If it shrinks, its dry-clean only. If not your ok.

Woahh.... Sweet child of mine... Just watch out for the dreaded "Belgium Wilton". Hessian backed carpets where you can see it through the pile which shrink on contact with too much water (Over wetting). Yeah, you need a course to see what the fuss is about or someone willing to take you under their wing and show you....

Visit lots of carpet shops and look at cheapy rubbish carpets, look out for those minging old people/council house carpets and look at the backing. There are many many pit falls in this business mate and although the response you've had is negative and as you put it, rude, a training course will pave the way and make things a little easier.

look for natural seagrass, Sisal, coconut, or any natural fibre that's weaved into a course rug or carpet.

almost everything else can be wet cleaned with correct testing and technique

The one's in the Naval Married Quarters here have carpet made out of recycled carrier bags.... apparently! Cleans up exceptionally well!!!!!!

I've seen leather carpets!

Wouldn't want to clean it either :o
