Title: squeegy rubber sticks out at end ??
Post by: jukelook on November 08, 2009, 04:51:11 pm
Hi newbie here.....My question for the experienced guys out there is ;
My squeegy (14") is fitted with a 14" rubber blade soft..however it sticks out of both ends of the channel by a bit (maybe 2-4mm).
Now this is obviously normal as the spare rubber blades i bought are all the same(unger)........so what do you guys do cut them down slightly at each end so they are flush with the channel or leave them as is.
 ???
thanks for any help guys

Buy your rubbers in long lengths, they're cheaper.  Cut them so that when you fit them there is about 2-3mm overhang each end.  If you cut them flush you won't be able to squeegee right to the edge.

Mine are cut with 1mm overhang & channel dog-eared. less detailing this way.

yeah you should def bye them in lengths!

i find that the amount of rubber sticking out on ends can sometimes be down to personal choice - go with whatever works best for you but the other guys are spot on to be honest.

less time detailing can save you alot of time

i dont use the clips to be honest, never bothered trying them so i cant comment either way.

i can recommend the pulex rubbers tho - i find that they dont round of so quick and hardly ever get nicks/lines in them.

how new are you to this mate? you will find loads of good info/banter on here!

I always left it sticking out a few mm when trad so you didn't scratch and scrape the sides of the rebate on old wooden windows. Not many of those about now though.

If you use soft rubber it's fine to overhang  but you will have more edges to wipe if you use hard rubber and leave it overhanging.

If you get the Unger channels for instance with the notches you'll won't need any of those fiddly clips or anything.

I was trad 17 years and have never heard of 'dog earing' What the hell is that?

And I found a 12" best for domestics.

dog earing= bending the top ends of the channel slightly to give pressure onto the edges of the blade, it does work and point being it doesn't leave as much suds to scrim round. the blade wil wear faster though, but it's a small difference really.

I've just stated using brass end clips as I bought a new ettore back-flip that came with them fitted and find that the rubber is held taught and gives a better result.
