I still haven't received the new clamp levers from Gardiners so before I start chasing them up, are they much better than the old as I've simply repaired them with gaffer tape and epoxy resin and chucked them in my spares bin and used a clamp lever from further down the pole until they've set?
-
i have had my new clamps fitted now for a week and i still adjust them daily so in my eyes they are the same so what can i say :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
-
Haven't got my levers yet either. ???
-
Had mine now for over a week and haven't snapped one. Don't seem to be adjusting them nowhere near as much and not getting the problem of them coming loose when pole is extended.
What ever he did it's certainly worked for me.
Also think I may have sorted the grit problem out, will post a separate thread later on this.

Had no problems with the new clamps. Don't think i've had to adjust them in over a fortnight. Had to adjust the dial bit pretty tightly first time though. Just hope i didn't go too mad. Don't think so. Time will tell :)
-
i got mine the other week :P
-
Have to say i'm the same as dave i find the new clamps need adjusting just the same as the others on a daily basis... they seem to be a bit stronger then the others overall tho the clamps are still very poor and dont work very well..

What is the point of these "new"clamps.I have to say it has really put me off buying one of these poles!!!Sometimes simple is best and dont reinvent the wheel.
-
had mine for a week now, and i have not had to adjust the clamps yet, great pole by the way
-
yes the grit is a big problem so much so Ive been using one of
my old fiberglass poles this week dosent mater how careful i am
with the hose the grit gets in i don't have this problem with my
old pole witch seams to defeat the object of buying this new pole (slx)
but the super max isn't anywhere near as bad i only clean it once a week
even this weather
the new clamps seam much better on both poles i used them all last week
only adjusted them a couple of times well done gardiners
just need something to stop the grit

ive got some but havent put them on yet! ::)

I'm letting Alex do mine ;D
Ian
p.s Alex please make sure you look after my pole and thanks for the delivery today ;)
Have to say the pick up yesterday of my pole within 2 hours was very impressive.................. ;)
-
I have had mine about 10 days I think...and they really are a massive improvement I have them on two poles now and they are much, much stronger ....I am the first to shout when things go wrong with the SL-X but Alex has really shown that he rightly is King of the Pole producers....
Well done to Alex and his team...
Cheers
Dave.

Hi p1w1 do you think Alex might have sent us the old one;s instead because no body else is having problems? (strange)
-
C/f although it seems inert does expand and contract, ever so slightly, maybe this is why you may have to adjust clamps daily ?
-
Do these clamps look any different to the old ones?
I should be getting my pole tomorrow, and I am hoping that its fitted with the new clamps.

Ive had no problems i also don't need to adjust mine regular maybe weekly or ever other, no different to the17ft hybrid i have, that needs adjusting ever other week.
-
im sure it will have the new clamps on although if you haven't
got the old ones you wont see the difference

I reckon i do have the new ones as i think there is a slight difference in them but i am still consistantly having to adjust them on a daily basis. I never had a problem with them breaking its always just with the adjustment to be honest the pole has been hassle from the day i got it with all clamps falling off on the second day of use and severe wear on certain areas on the sections think i got the runt of the bunch :-\

Had mine over a week now with no probs, used the old ones as curtain hooks, saves buyin'em chaps.

Regarding grit...
Firstly the issue is two fold. One, we are not used to using a 22' (in my case but possibly 25+ in others )as a downstairs pole, with far longer pole hose trailing on the floor when the pole is compact. And secondly the tolerances between sections are smaller to aid rigidity, so any dirt or grit that does get in causes problems.
The simplest solution...
With the pole collapsed coil the pole hose around your left hand and elbow. You should leave about two foot free from the tap and about four foot from the pole base.Holding the coil wrap the hose three times around it's middle. Then using some remaining free hose pull a loop through the top half of the coil.Place this loop around your neck and the pole house will stay in place and crucially off the floor and tangle free for the duration of your task. To release pole hose to extend the pole, remove loop from neck, pass loop back through coil, unwind the three middle retaining wraps, and allow the hose to go free.
A hose tidy does a similar job, but with the hose tidy you are carrying the weight of the hose on the pole which defeats the object of a lighter pole.
-
lol yeah.. god help you if you have a protecta ball on the end the way those things snag on everything you will end up choking yourself to death ;D
-
Sorry, my hose from the reel is attached to me by a harness so the tap is always to hand. I forgot that some people have this on the floor. So obviously my solution only applies if you already have the pole hose and tap attached to yourself, which i assumed, wrongly as it turns out, that everybody did.
-
LOL, maybe there should have been some R&D with this pole.
Hanging yourself, slumpbuster shouldn’t be an option. ;D
Thats quite funny actually, non-racist humour, I like it! ;D

I'm using the SLX with pole hose sited externally. It can get in the way a bit but generally seems to be working and certainly helps with the grit situation. However, I find it better to use the pole hose that is slightly fatter than the one supplied as it can push onto the Y-piece a bit more forcefully. This seems to be more important when using hose externally IMO as it's easier to tread on the pole hose and yank it off the Y. More care is needed but it does seem to be a workable solution (so far).
Indeed, when I am using the SL-X on a long run of windows, it's even possible to use the bottom clamp as a pole hose holder - so long as the next section doesn't need to be extended of course (I have the old allen key clamps).

try and help and what do you get....

I know EXACTLY how you feel slumpy, its the story of my life. Try try try and all they do is stab you in the back when you're not looking ;)
