Title: Vauxhall combo owners beware
Post by: STEVE-UK on November 03, 2009, 07:08:30 pm
I bought a vauxhall combo 1.3cdti as 2nd van, it didnt start very well the day after i bought it so took it to a garage to have it looked at, they done an engine flush and now it has a rattly timing chain, it seems the person i bought it off done a temporary fix to hide the noise

just to let you guys know if you have a combo with a slight rattle when warm, you will need a timing chain replacement,if left the engine will blow, or if looking to buy one this is a common fault on the 1.3cdti's, i also found out that the 1.3cdti's are fiat engines

I've got the 1.3cdti and thankfully no problems for almost 2 years now.
That link you supplied doesn't relate to the 1.3cdti specifically so why the

Most of the posts were about petrol Corsas ::)

I went to a used ford dealer to p/x it, they were not interested due to having sold a few before which snapped chains.so i came back home and found a few other sites mentioning the 1.3's in particular

it did anger me to find out id been done, but thought id post on here as there are a few people on here thinking of buying one

Did you read my post correctly?

The ops warning was about the 1.3cdti and the added link didn't specify any 1.3 cdti so that's why I replied.

Just Googled your 1.7 for faults.....
Warning.... it has, head gasket faults/ecu problems/starting problems ::)
Just relax and enjoy it and hopefully none of these will affect you :)

Mate of mine is a Mec, he reckons most of the diesels need a check on the belt at 20,000 miles. He says most need to be changed or whatever, usually about the 40 to 60.000.mark or after about 5 to 6 years if the mileage is low.
