Title: SEO? any good?
Post by: Richy L on November 03, 2009, 01:04:37 pm
Has anyone paid for this?

Im being offered £300+VAT for set up and then £40+VAT a month for 200 odd key phrases.

Is it worth paying for this?

Get a Vista Print website.
£8 odd I think I pay a month and they automatically submit you
to Google.
YOU can put as many keywords in as you want.
Don't need to pay all that money nowadays for a website.

Do you do any SEO yourself via google webmaster tools and analytics? i dont pay anyone and come up on first page for many relevant searches anyways, but it takes time and patience.

Thats a complete rip off!

SEO shouldn't cost more than £100 for an average site.
No one can "guarantee" 1st page in Google,.. in reality its normally easy to achieve, but it can't be guaranteed!!
There is no need to re-do your SEO every month. You should keep an eye on it and tweak it occasionally, but monthly is overkill if they are charging you for it.
200 keywords can be tracked for free by signing up to Google webmaster tools. It's really on;y the top 30 -40 that make a difference though!

Huge waste of money - it's easy to do it yourself!
I got the book SEO for Dummies cos I didn't have a clue a couple of years ago when I did the website and it was quickly on page one of google for the keywords I had set it up for  ;D

Try changing the heading on your home page to something like this.

                         Exterior Cleaning Specialist in Cardiff
                                            Leeksons

With the leeksons in bold and possibly larger

done, cheers.

I thought having a few different things in the title would have been better. Is that not the case?

From what I've learned, and that's not that much, the search engines look at the page title
for what they want.
Nobody would type in Leeksons they'd type in the type of work they want doing.
Don't quote me on that though.

Go to the Cleantalk forum - Marketing Matters - Web site key word changes by Steve Skoyles.
Pretty good reading in plain English.

why? seo is worth far more then that and is fair to say £300+ for good seo from a good company.

No one can "guarantee" 1st page in Google,.. in reality its normally easy to achieve, but it can't be guaranteed!!

there isn't a complete redesign of the seo for a site needed every month but seo is a constant thing, hence the £300 at start, then £30 p/m.

the only issue here is that the company is promising a load of rubbish, first page result but for how long? 1 day of the whole year contract? approach seo companies yuorself and you're more likely to get a beter service. pay peanuts you'll get monkeys is also very true. seo requires a lot of experience to be done correctly

I would suggest before paying a "specialist" SEO company that you have a trawl around www.edrivis.com He has a number of very helpful books and DVD's to assist smaller businesses get to grips with the web.

Just like anything some of his stuff will not be relevant but personally, he has saved me an awful lot of time and there is a lot of gold nuggets in what he  promotes and he is one of the few gurus who admits that a lot of the stuff he is teaching has been learned by his own mistakes!

Hi all
I personally would not waste my money "specialist" SEO company always getting e-mails promising page 1
I have never had any website training whatsoever
Done my WebPages in Dreamweaver as for optimisation SEO  just a bit of reading it is  quite simple to do most important thing page title reflects what the page is about and not your company name unless you are Argos or comet.
Use H1 tag is heading tag which is Tex in your page for important parts which are key words H6 which is your closing tag.
Also in your page name by which I mean it in a browser after www.your site /carpet cleaning for example.
Also when doing your pages give your picture a name not JPEG 34 and its key words again.

And use the alternate text this describes your picture for people who are blind and have pictures turned off and a text reader will describe the picture Google cannot see pictures but can read the text more keywords.
Just look at any website right click the picture click on properties you will see what I mean it would normally say missing if you do all this and more and you are the person has the most interest in getting your pages up and you will get to page 1
I have done this I’m top of Page one WORLD search for a lot of keywords.

My advice joined this web development Forum.

http://www.vodahost.com/vodatalk/

And do some reading and asked questions

They have free software but please note this will only work with their hosting package and like a lot of other free software

If you do it in any other normal software they will still hosted.
They also have a fairly good video tutorials section.

Sorry to go on a bit and hope it helps someone,
All the best
Mark

^^ you mind giving a few examples of the first page result for the world search? i ask as your advice is great but saying first page result worldwide can be a bit misleading given that if i search for something very niche on my site i'll be first result too, but actual important keywords which get a lot of competition require more then just a little bit of seo learnt from reading tutorials online, and from doing the suggestions above you'll never get close to first page result.

i can't see your site for any of those google links sorry. Do you know why? i think this is a perfect example of why a seo company is worth the money, as long as you get a good one.
