Was in my local chandlery place over the weekend, and noticed the had gas opperated heaters in there for £500 ish, looked almost identical to the diesel opperated ones i have seen, might have a closer look next time i am there.
Just another idea of somewhere to look so as to get the best possible price,as i am a tightwad !
Seen here even cheaper !

You mean you actually keep your gear in the van overnight??

Hadnt though about what John just posted but if you have not got storage space in the house or a garage, maybe the van is the only option (security becomes an issue though).
The gas one is fine if you already have gas in the van ie some TM engines have been converted to gas so may be a good alternative to diesel powered ones.
But if you aint got gas in the van now then thats another container to carry, and a potential hazard (explosion).
Assuming your van is diesel engined then you have the fuel source for a diesel powered heater. Thats the one to go for.

Just get a decent oil filled rad with frost protection 1.5 kw min, i have never had a problem and it does drop cold up here on the top of the pennines.

That's what I meant Joe.
Wouldn't even think about it round here.
They'd steal their mothers knickers.

Ha Ha chears clinton !
Did a 2 seat sofa and armchair this morn ,for one of my reg custy, house is immaculate, typically i cut my hand on something unloading the van, don`t know what it is with me and cuts, everytime i clean suites i cut myself, and the more i concentrate on being super carefull the more i am likely to do something wrong !
Think i will just continue to bring everything in that is likelty to be damaged by cold, and just put up with the nagging about it being in the way !

That way there will be more space for you to sleep in the back of the van when you have a row!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so just to do a complete u turn on this topic in aus and other warmer climates do they have the opposite prob eg with humidity in the van causing probs.
-
Guys whats the alternative to running a lead to the back of the van as it then becomes an opening for cold and scrotes to enter in the house. Is there something that wont compromises heat/security and is reasonably cheap.Regards Alan

weatherproof outdoor 3 pin socket - cable thru bottom of passenger door (still closes ok) then over back of seats to old oil filled rad - loop some excess cable over steering wheel or drivers seat to avoid driving off without unplugging ;D

Does an oil filled rad make a spark when it turns on/off?
I have a normal convector heater I 'm considering putting in the van to keep my TM from freezing but I'm a bit worried about the fact that I see a little spark when the thermostat kicks in :-\
The TM is converted to LPG so no petrol vapours to worry about.
Thoughts anyone?

Just looked at the spec of that thing....It moves almost as much CFM as some ppls carpet cleaning machines! :D

Prob more than mine at the mo !!

You will probably be alright Jim but if it was Mark I wouldn't risk it. ;D
-
I thought you stuck these sort of things, Eberspracher etc, under the bonnet and the hot air is piped into the van.
-
Have one van with a fitted diesel heater and another thats parked on a drive that we just put a 100 watt blub inside. It was a tip from my dad and it works never any frost on the van and dead cheap as well.

No Joe

100 watt bulb. Just put it in the van or do you have to turn it on as well???????????
;D ;D
Just kidding, does that really work?
John
