Title: Advice on new machine please
Post by: Lewis Newby on November 02, 2009, 05:57:06 pm
hi i am new to the forum, i run a mobile valeting company and have and increasing number of customers who enquire about carpet cleaning,
i currently use a Numatic CTD 570 for valeting and have done several customers carpets with good results but this machine is too small for domestic carpets i seem to be stopping every 10 mins to fill it up or empty it.
i am looking for a machine with a better capacity solution and extraction tanks but thats not so big that i cant manoeuvre it up stairs etc.
can you recommend something suitable? i have been looking at the numatic CTD 900 and also the prochem steempro but im unsure if these would be too large?

thanks in advance
lewis

You need to be looking to buy a 135psi machine with 2 vac motors at the very least. I have the CDT902 machine, but it's one I rent out to skint flints and price shoppers.... ;D

It's disappeared from ebay Len ???

Lew, I can only really recommend what I use and it's impossible to say which machine is best because this always throws up a lot of "My machine's better than yours!" rubbish.... ::) But, I use an Altec Advance Triple Vac with a variable psi up to 600psi, it costs a little over £3k! I would say though that the more experienced people on this forum are in a better position to give advice than myself....

In an ideal world, I'd own a HM Truck Mount and get 3-5 jobs a day cracked out and be home in time to pick the kids up from school...... One day :)

Looking at your profile Happy day for a 6 yr old living in Hong Kong I'd say your doing very well!

How on earth do people expect to get sensible advice if they either don't fill in their profiles or write a load of rubbish.

It beggs belief >:(

Colin "Happy" Day is obviously having mid-life crisis early.

He will get back to normal soon, keep taking the tablets!

But Colin, how do we expect to encourage newbies to fill in a profile when YOU have changed yours to something silly.
Shake a leg, get it sorted.

Its amazing are we not taking the profiles a little too seriously?

After all it is a forum and most of what we say is just banter. If the replies we get are genuine all well and good but all should be taken with a pinch of salt. After all he is just having a bit of fun.

And what does the age and location actually tell any one. The location could be made up... and not actually true. Age well does that actually matter. Some fill it in some dont.

The Steampro Powermax will be a good machine for
a start.
As you can see from the replies Newbies do not
always get the help they deserve especially when
people go off at a tangeant. Don't forget the status
of cleanitup gods is acheived by the quantity of posts
posted and not always by the quality or knowledge
they have.
Come on guys help the newbies and give them
what they expect. Serious replys.

The reason "we" can be a little cautious with newbies is that sometimes they not who they appear to be.
Sometimes they are ones who have been banned from the forum for one thing or another and then comeback under different name etc to stir things up, wind us up and then have a good laugh.
Its good to have a good laugh but it gets a bit much at times.
The other thing is - some are a bit reluctant to give help to someone who may be in their vicinity. Natural I suppose.

I have helped many a cleaner of the years but only when I know who they are!

So come on you guys lets have your profiles up to date if you want us to help you.

thanks for the replies-the sensible ones anyway ;) i will get my profile upto date asap.
i have never posted on a cleaning forum before. i have setup a valeting company on my own , my father in law runs 3 office cleaning companies in london and started of where i am now -doing mobile valeting. but  he advised that i wouldnt need the sort of equip his cleaners use as they are far to un-portable for me to move around customers houses safely. hence me wanting some pros advice

anymore constructive opinions on machines would be great, at presesnt i am limited to under £800 unless lease purchased - good quality second hand is not a problem for me,

Well Lewis from Devon I can tell you that a Steam pro will do you just dandy, most guy's leave their machines on the front door step and run pipes in the house. Other have larger electric machines with 3 vac motors and run them from their vans.
First thing you will need to do is get yourself either with a local carpet cleaner who can give you good on the job advice or book yourself on a cleaning course.
There are plenty to choose from i.e Matt at Clean smart, Prochem, Alltech, I'm sure if there are any more the seasoned people on here will let you know.

The steam pro will be fine, it just depends on what you want to do, Richard has a good point about service too, if you want the carpet cleaning to grow I think the Airflex is upgradeable as it uses the same body for all the models. The basic twin with 135psi pump comes with wand and hose training etc so as you expand you upgrade the pump and add a vac along the way. Just a thought. By comparison a Powerflite perfect heat went for £1500 on ebay recently, a bargain. In most domestic situations you should be able to leave the machine downstairs and run hose to the upstairs, 50 foot covers most properties and most twin vacs should cope with that. Shop around as the steam pro is supplied by many and a web search could give you a bargain, if you prefer to buy local maybe you can get a price match ;D

Good luck

Get a new one and if you can't afford it get it on lease hire, you can claim it back against tax.
With a new one, hopefully, it will be one less thing to worry about as nothing should pack in for the first 12 months or so.
You'll have enough on your plate just starting up w/o the hassle of wondering when the pump will go on a second hand one.

Am with you on that john.

Ebay might be of for a back up machine but i would also go for new as it aint much of an outlay to start a buisness.
