Is there many of these no go zones around ?

I seen one of these area's for the first time a few days ago, had a nice full day of canvassing in a nice area planned. Got out the van, and seen the signs. Eye catching red and white, police warning, no cold calling/uninvited sales. :-\
-
where is this? did u ignore it?
-
yep would get the same from me, nothing worse than
going to the door for some herbert interupting my evening
when ive settled for the night.
i leaflet only and if there is a sign on door saying no leaflets
i dont stick one through
ive got listing on yellow pages advertise in my local rag and
i am on very available free advertising space i can find on the
internet.
no need for me to knocking peoples doors especially when
they specifically ask you not to ;)
-
do you get good responses from leaflets?

Im talking about the signs that are on a lamppost stating no cold calling area, so when theres about 3000 propertys within this area ill knock, but if someone cas no cold callers on there door then I wont knock it ;D
-
these no call zones have no legal standing at the moment.
if you knock the door and get a grump, just tell them you cant read and that's why you are only a window cleaner.

Unless you are doing it for free, you are selling something... your services.
Quite a few elderley folks around our way have these stickers as apart from don't want to be disturbed, they are also frightned to open the door to strangers.
Just respect it and push a flyer through, they'll ring you if they want you.
-
thats not selling though is it, you are offering a service people want, its in your head if you dont wanna do it, the realty is very different i ve never not knocked a house with a sticker, and yet to have someone point to it and say it applies, i suppose it depends on your approach
your just not as charming as me :)
or as modest :P
-
Not stickers, but I've seen area's now with large metal post signs up, like road signs.
They have Police warnings on them, no canvassing /cold calling and are very visible.
-
This is where a leaflet drop first comes in handy. As they open the door you say "Hello, my name is ........... and I put one of these through your door a couple of days ago" and show them the leaflet. It's still technically cold calling, but at least if you have a uniform with your name/logo on it and your leaflet also has your name/logo you've got a sort of 'prior introduction'.
As for those yellow 'no caller' stickers, I always knock, then when they open the door I say: "I'm sorry, I knocked before I noticed your sticker, then it seemed rude to just walk away without explaining." Gets them every time, they just say: "Oh, that's alright!"
-
Maybe I'm just getting grumpy now I'm past 30, but I have to say that cold callers really annoy me,.. and I'm not in a "No cold calling" zone, & I don't have a sticker on the door.
If I was in a zone or did have a sticker and someone still had the cheek to knock,.. I'd call the old bill and report a "suspicious character who is looking in windows/back gardens, obviously sizing up the place for a burglary" etc etc.
If the sticker is on the door I just post a flyer and move on,.. its just good manners.
-
if you dont knock you dont get the business !! Very few people respond with leaflets, i have leafleted an area before - got no calls then knocked a few months later and was welcomed by a number of houses with open arms and being told that we cant get a window cleaner round here for love nor money .....the moral of the story is KNOCK!!!!! ...... If you are interested in having good manners and dont want to disturb people!?! then dont knock , if you are interested in having loads of customers then ...... KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK
-
i have loads of custys and i dont knock.
i just prefer to treat people and there property
with a bit of respect ;)
-
Stan if your dog took a piece out a door knocker with out a warning you will find yourself in the chair. I worked for an estate agent before and a fellow knocked on a door, did not get an answer so dropped a leaflet through the letter box. One of those with a brush on both sides, the dog bit him and the owner had to pay damages
-
Even with a worning I would like to know what law I would be braking if I knock on the door. Folk should be a little understanding one is trying to offer them a service and earn a honest living.

Same here.
Though i'm pleasant when the milkman canvasses. And other window cleaners. Most others get a quick no thanks as the door is closing.

You should be more understanding that I don't want to buy on the doorstep. If I want a window cleaner I'll google one!
-
If you have something worth telling people about, don't worry about signs ;D
-
Guys, it all boils down to how much you want to grow your business, i knock on every single door whether its in a no cold call zone or has a sticker, you get the odd person saying something but i just apologise and move on. I know for a fact I booked several people today who had stickers.....
whats the worst that could happen?????
they come out with no clothes on and stick a needle in your neck. when you come round 2 hrs later you are tied to a chair smelling of honey and covered with red fire ants. :o :o
then you are told you shouldn't have killed off the main character
too much ??? ???
-
never watch horror movies

never watch horror movies
you either watch to many or clearly need to see a doctor to get sectioned :o
-
I've got loads of customers with stickers on their doors, guess how I got them?
Cold calling.
-
Ok, it seems to be the popular Consensus to knock regardless.
Thanks guys, I've set myself a target of 50 new customers through November, hopefully that's achievable :)
-
i got a new customer last week with a "no cold calling sticker" just have thick skin and luagh off any abuse!
-
this topic is always going to divide opinion, but knocking imo is best
if you dont like it leaflet :) but if im out walking around anyway id rather come away with results than put in the leg work posting and then cross fingers and wait for the phone to ring
-
just gave my kids a load of leaflets and 20% off per clean to go trick or treating with, I live in a no cold calling zone so can cover two things at a time ;D.
is it wrong to teach kids to do door knocking for you at least they show willing:-\

They'll probably think you're trying to get in to borrow their toilet.

I like it, mine are getting dressed up now to go out so they are getting a bundle of leaflets to take with them, and any kid that knocks the door could get a leaflet and a few sweets dropped into there bag ;D

That's different, most kids round our way throw eggs at the property if they don't get treated. I've never known the punishment to be having your windows washed ???

Even with a worning I would like to know what law I would be braking if I knock on the door. Folk should be a little understanding one is trying to offer them a service and earn a honest living.
Equally cold callers should understand that not everyone likes being disturbed, or likes doing buisness at the door, or wants or even needs the services being offered. I often think back to my mother (who wasn't old when she died) but after a very traumatic incident in her life she was virtually housebound with agrophobia. What happened to her had left her a chain-smoking nervous wreck and she couldn't bear it when people came knocking the door.
She had a sign on the door asking people not to come kncocking, but not everyone took notice. I think one poor guy selling electricity deffo got the message the day he called when my brother-in-law was visiting...my BIL is the size of a house and has little patience at the best of times. He gave the guy a little word or two, shall we say ;D
And did i feel it was unjust? No. There was a warning on the door. ::)

all though I sepethise....................thats not the cleverest thing to do to someone more, so when a vunerable person is living alone , lets abuse a stranger at the door ::)

Did i say i thought it was clever? Did i say i agreed? No. What i said was that the person had been warned. i am not sure if he was Thick skinned or just thick, but my mother could not stand people coming to the house. The house which she worked hard all her life to pay for. The house in which she kept herself to herself and spoke to no one. Is it so wrong to be asked for people to respect her need to be left alone? I don’t think so.

Do you really think violence or the threat of violence is justified if someone knocks on a door trying to make a living?
You all seem to forget what canvassers are trying to achieve, all we want is to make a living.....
If there is a note on the door, then it begs the question, really it does.
Lots of people 'try' to make a living. They don't all do it by ignoring signs that ask to be left alone :(
-
hear hear mate have to knock doors is the hardest canvass around leaflets a waste of time been knocking doors for ages just got to be polite the snobby buggers can take a hike they dow deserve me services anyway one for the windowcleaners i think!!! :D
-
leaflets do work but it takes longer than knocking.
ive got a no canvassing sticker on the door and if anybody
knocks the door and is selling anything i simply close the door
without saying anything.
same as those idiots who phone after 8 at night trying to
sell go knows what crap i put the phone down on them.
-
i know my parents dont like people coming to the door uninvited they are both around 70 and it does say no canvessors cold callers but they still get some, if you need work, use fliers etc, other people seem to manage to get enough work without bothering and sometimes even frightning people by calling after dark, you may be well intentioned but im sure alot of your parents wouldnt like it as they get older, if you must do it please do it in daylight
-
I get people knocking on my door all the time and its really annoying but I think well I've done it in the past so don't complain.
Where I live, Pinner, is a wealth area. An ordinary three bed semi like ours goes for nearly a half a million now so people think we are minted. If only they knew, but it brings them in from all over to come and knock on doors.
