Im trying to cut back on canvassing so id like to know if anyone uses Self Addressed Envelopes and do all the customers pay on time or do they forget?
The bank advises me not to use standing order or direct debit due so im really considering SAE

u mean cut back on collecting...yes it does work, but u must be strict with your customers ...dont clean again untill payment is recieved otherwise they will just pay when they want to...
most of mine send payment within 2 weeks...I have had the odd few who i'v had to drop as the just would not pay on time...but it's deffo worth it as I was spending at least 6 hrs a week in the evenings collecting >:(
it will take a while to get a good system going, but sticvk with it... ;)

Get them paying via internet banking...easy peasy lemon squeezy..give em your bank account number and sort code, have them put their postcode and housenumber in the reference section and Bobs your uncle.

i would say 65% of my customers pay by cheque,most pay with in a week,some 2 there are one or two who take abit longer then required,but on the whole its great

I asked my Bank manager about it, He said low risk in giving a\c No. to custs, other option is getting them to pay by paypal

I switched over to SAE 2 years ago, get payments in quicker. It gives the custy no excuse not to be prompt with payment as you've done all you can to make payment as easy as poss' for them. An SAE is, in itself IMO a hint to them! ;)
I print them off myself & use 2nd class stamps.

i was told i could take them to the post office and get them stamped- Got a quote today from a printer for £95 for 1000 envelopes

It's £25 for 1000 blank envelopes from my local p/office.
It would cost me at most £3 in ink & 2 hours to do 1000. ;)

How do you know which customer the payments are from ?
Im looking at just putting a card inside with the details

Yep, i have cards that i put in. If you have ms publisher I can email you a copy of the card just put you own details on it.

I used to put stamps on untill a few months ago, but I thought Id just stop and see if people would still send it on. No one has said a thing and people just send it as normal its saving me about £1000 a year.

I put a " windows have been cleaned today".... and on it are my bank details too, or alternatively send a cheque.
in an addressed envelope (not stamped)....
and it is highlighted at the bottom
PLEASE PAY WITHIN 3 WORKING DAYS.
They all pay within a week, and i never have one outstanding customer by the time i clean again.

P.S. I print four cards on one A4 photo-matt 130gsm sheet & use a proper paper trimmer to cut them out.

I get 10 of these of an A4 sheet and use these. I did consider the merits of leaving sae when i stopped collecting but it would of cost at the time £27 per 100. I considered it an unnecessary cost once i had a bit of cash behind me so didn't try it.

i use SAE for some of my out of the way single accounts and some of my other custys pay 3 or 4 months in advance!but overall a lot pay when i clean and i find 2 hours a week collecting is all i need to do now.a lot of my work compact so when i finish work i usually spend 10 mins knocking for money for that days work.2 cleans then no more till i get paid!!simple! ;D ;D

I'm just a bit worried that we're all missing a trick here by focussing on how collecting is made simplier for US by using SAE.
Despite it being a pain, I've picked up loads of work by having those face-to-face 2 minute conversations at the door step, such as I was going to ask you to clean my guttering, my friend wants a window cleaner and two doors down have moved and even so-and-so says she's not seen her window cleaner for a few months.
Surely, thats what building a round is all about ?

i use the post office freepost system then it only costs me 22p when an envelope is used
i also have s/o paypal and online banking available
even with that over half my custys prefer to send chqs
you pay a £75 fee then just keep your reducing account balance topped up everynow and then.
providing paid envelopes was the best thing i did to get payments coming in quicker

how much does the post office charge you? is it just that £75? how long does that last for?
