Hi dude
I have a laptop (XP) & it's stuck. It's just displaying a "compaq" wallpaper. won't switch off, won't do anything, no keys will respond.
Any ideas mate?
Will move over to none related topics side if this gets busted ;D

i usually just pull the battery out of mine, when it crashes this usually does the trick and reboot it and let scan disk take over

first off
have you got all your stuff on it backed up ? ? ? ? ?? if not, you might have to whip the drive out and get all the files off it via another PC
if you do not care about whats on it being lost, try and put a WIN XP CD / DVD in and see if it will repair the install of XP
failing that, it'll be a full format and re-install

On start up keep taping the F8 or F5 key and a menu will apear then choose last know good configeration and press enter.
If this fails repeat and choose safe mode and when computer is running in safe mode, press start programs assesories tools then system restore.

Thanks guys, will try the F8 key thing.

That's the way to do it.

Tried the F8 thing but it still won't go past the original error. It'll have to go back to shop, just found out it's got a "whatever happens" 5 year guarantee ;D ;D
Mother-in-laws, who needs them!!!!
Thanks for all your help though. ;)
