Title: dog earing a squeegy?
Post by: peekeclean on October 22, 2009, 02:11:11 pm
been trying to dog ear my squeegy like the guy on youtube says but not had much success. Can you do this to any squeegy?
just seem to get missed bits in the middle or on the edges as i sweep from corner to corner, any help with this or is it not worth the bother?

thanks joe

No point in dog earing, you can buy the clips from WCW for 2 or 3 quid for a large pack.
Slip them between your rubber and the channel and it gives you the desired ears without having to get the old pliers on your channel and worrying whether you have bent it too much or not enough

Is that the guy with the wagtail? I tried his method this week, but couldn't get it to work either. Just kept leaving smears. I just dog eared the normal way and everything was fine again.

WTF is dog earing?

The ends of the channel are bent in slightly to hold the rubber against the edge of the window better. Cuts down a lot on detailing.

Hi Joe,

I always dog ear my squeegees, but far more effective is to wipe round the edge of the glass with a cloth before you start squeegeeing.  That way you take off all the excess water from around the edges so when you squeegee there's no 'free' water to leave a run around the edge.

Sequence: mop the glass, wipe all round (except the bottom edge) squeegee.  Check to see there's no residue around the edge then move on to the next pane of glass.

It`s beneficial to cut out a 8 millimeter or so section from your
Channel, above the rounded part, then `dog-ear`.It allows for the
Moulding on upvc frames.Suitable for aluminium channels rather
Than brass or stainless.Takes about 20 minutes to make with basic
Tools.
Ian did you ever around to doing it?

Got to disagree here Tomy, especially `poling `at height.
Even hand on glass,ya need too steady a hand. This is
Only on upvc or powder coated frames with a moulding.
It`s the moulding that’s the problem I find.

Surely you would be better off detailing after you bladed the water off.

The whole point about doing it first is that there's no need for accuracy, so it's far faster.  You wipe the water off the frame and the first 1" or so of the glass, then squeegee.  If you do it right there's no need to detail.

I'll vouch for that method. Works a treat with a dog eared squeegee!  ;D
