i have been on here for a while now and have read many topics, a lot of them are on the fact that many custy seem to think that wcs are a lot of doleys only doing this job till they get a proper job, and they can treat us like they want, with not this month, leave till after xmas ans stuff like that,
i am wondering if its to with the fact that domestic wc are not seen as professional trades, even thought many have sign writen vans, and uniforms, where i live in cornwall there is a lot of wc who use the own car with there ladders on top, (i havent got a problem with this, i have got a van my self)
does any one feel that people using cars makes us look un pro, as i have had a few custy comment on this when i am doing there job ie, oh u got a van the last guy used there car etc
i am just wondering what other people think of car users, as do ur custy say anything
thanks

Domestic:-
Most people don't care.
Even less people care about your car if you dress reasonably well and speak well.
Even even less people care if your car isn't a complete wreck with ladders sticking out of the sunroof and you don't dress as a raggedy-arsed tramp with a f a g hanging out of your gob!
Commercial:
As above unless it is bigger stuff by which time you probably need a van or a trailer to do it. A reasonable estate car with a sign written trailer/bowser is fine.
BTW - I have a small van but am considering getting a trailer for bigger commercial stuff and/or add-on jobs needing extra specialist tools.

The custies want the job done cheaply and done properly...they dont give a stuff about your social status..

Sometimes it is'nt about the customer at all....personal pride does come into it at times...I like to walk out the house with polished boots and a clean set of work gear
I like the van to look 'clean' it's a 99 Nissan Vanette..not the latest and greatest but it does the job.
Pride comes from within as does respect.
Cheers
Dave.

the average Joe or joette likes to see a windower either on foot or in a regular car (with signs) as it smacks of regular guy tryin hard to make a crust . step up to a big signwritten van and the price goes up, everybody knows that !

I agree, if you feel positive and good within your self then that comes across to the customer.

I never go out without shaving LOL, I just think it dosnt give the right impression.

a car looks a bit chavy a van looks the biz, after all if its your own round and you want to look the part its worth the efort . i use a bike me self ;D

Just put a smile on your face, thats all you have to do

To me, it's not very professional. If i had any trade come to do any sort of work at my house, I would expect them to turn up in a van
-
My van was off the road for a week recently and I did a few jobs from my car,.. I have to say I was more than a little embarrassed and chose the customers who saw me working this way very carefully, even though my van is older and nowhere near as nice as my car!
-
We would all have vans if we could afford them to start with. I am well educated and well spoken.I try to look my best everydays. I will do a good job and be polite to all my custimers. And i will buy a van when I can afford it.Till then I will use my Focus and my customers will have to live with it. The car or van does not maketh the man. "Only if you drive a B M W".

.Professionally is a state of the mind not state of ones financial level !!

It`s important to look presentable but my chauffeur does look a trifle dishevelled some mornings. He knows how to handle a Roller though.
