MODERATORS NOTE- I have split this post from the George as it has now changed to a WCP post, and thought it needed its own thread
Hi Dave
I have to say that i truly hope you dont find any bugs in WCP!! I hope no-one takes this as me having a go at George at all but i can import your debt list into WCP if you would like me to.
Best regards
Brad

Never have a problem with WCP mate ;)
its only been out a year
This version has and what a silly thing to say!
-
OK Brad
How do we do this ?
I do i transfer the data ?
If there any bugs, guaranteed, I will find them, do you want to take that chance ?

Hi Dave
If you do a George data export and email it to me (debt list export also) i will do the data conversion as a priotity for you, if you give me a couple of hours i will have it returned to you as a WCP data back up so you can jusy upload it into your WCP. As we have discussed previously George does not export notes etc so i cannot get them into WCP unfortunately.
Ian and i always around so if you have any problems at all then drop one of us a line and i am sure we can overcome them.
Thank you for giving us the chance to show you how WCP has evolved since you last trialed it and thabk you to all the other guys on here who mentioned WCP, its nice of you all to support WCP the way you do and it is appreciated by Ian and myself.

Just a daft comment sorry mate.

Are you ready for my debt list, I have just scrolled down the debt list to line 1664
-
Good start, I can't import my Jobs into Pro.
Looks like I will have to do them all manually

Well Dave, its gotta be done so send it over and i'll get onto it tomorrow for you. I would normally offer to do it tonight but i need my beauty sleep to look as gorgeous as i do !!
On a serious note, send it to me and i will get ot converted for you, it may take a little longer than plannned but it isnt a problem and i will get onto it asap for you.
Oh, i ought to point out that we haven't managed to get the 'arm holding a chamois leather' to come out of the CD tray yet ... Dave will explain that one to anyone interested, it involves a phone call from a man with a strange accent asking about how WCP actually cleans windows!

Send me the export file and i will convert it Dave. Its not the easiest routine to convert the data so send your George back-up file to me and i will do it along with your debt list for you

Whats wrong with you lot, good old fashioned pen and paper for me, never let me down
-
you cant see how much is owing at the push of a button though, or how much work is for next week, or print off a debt list or work list for an employee
computer just makes things quicker (well supposedly) it is better i have got pen and paper too but too much adding and working to do
-
Gosh however did we cope in 1985?

Good old pen and paper in my pocket on the day of cleaning (printed list of customers on Excel spreadsheet ) . Data gets transfered to "my" Excel spreadsheet on PC when I get home. Upload it to a free server for storage every 2 weeks (just in case PC crashes) .No problems.

Day book, outstanding book, earnings book, expenses book, lovely jubbly lol

If its broke dont fix it mate, but i find wcp is easy :)

I started with pen and papoer. It worked fine until the round started growing though. Then it became a hassle.
It sounds funny now but for a few years I used a spreadsheet called "Rocket" (it wasn't ;D ) on an Amstrad PCW with a half megabyte memory expansion cartridge. Those machines were so archaic, they didn't even have a hard drive. Even the floppies were only half the normal capacity of the ones that were being used later on PCs.
I had to split the data up into half yearly segments (6 months on each disc) and I would go make coffee while the data was saving. I managed to fit some state of the art technology to it it - a single coloured bubblejet printer with the rather unfortunate name of BJ10 SX :) . I was still using that printer for certain jobs until a couple of years ago.
If I fiddled around with the DIP switches, I could get it to print out the spreadsheets sideways - one month at a time.

I had an Amstrad PCW too, just after my Spectrum 48k !! I wrote a sales presentation on it and it took about 10 minutes to save and the same to print out on some ancient dot matrix printer....in hindsight it was probably the worst presented presentation i have ever done but at the time i was on the cutting edge of technology!! How times change eh?

pen and paper for me.mind u im a sole trader with 350 custys.income and expenses book, work day book and diary that i fill in at the end of every day of what custys ive cleaned so i know when their due again.work book has custys ive cleaned, whos paid, who owes 2 wks etc.works very well.has done for 15 yrs.ive got no reason to change.most of my custys are monthly and a few bi monthly,a few 6 weekly.likes already been said if it aint broke, dont try and fix it!i dont clean on a fixed day, always roughly about 4 to 5 wks or 8 to 9 wks .i have a few bigger accounts that i fone the day before for access etc that are usually bang on time and vary the compact 3 bedders to roughly the same time.taking into account bad weather, poor motivation{like today!},taking girlfriend to hospital etc.

Hi Slumpbuster
If you click the 'Help' button on the WCP toolbar it gives you a fairly comprehensive list on how to carry out the required tasks. The main topics you will need are as follows:
Rounds - Adding a round, Adding a job, Job order, moving a job to another round
Schedule - Selecting jobs, worksheets
Debts - Printing debts, Maintaining debts
The only part of the program not covered in the help section is the End Of Day button which is a case of clicking on it and it will show up a list of whatever you have on your worksheet for that day, you then simply click on whether each job was Done and if it was Paid, or if it was missed (option to input reason it was missed). The system then automatically updates your clean schedules and debt lists.
It is crucial this is done every day as some customers have told me their schedules are not being updated but they are not running the end of day....the program will only operate on the information you feed it.
I hope this helps

I can see a big money maker,..
Who's going to publish "WCP for Dummies" first?
:)
I'd buy it! I've used WCP for a good few months now, but I know I'm not using it to its full potential. A step by step "For Dummies" type guide would be very welcome.
-
Yes, thanks, that probably is helpfull. What i probably need to do is have a play with it, and then import a file.
I have about 500 live jobs and it's a bit scarey.
I notice a few, such as dave etc, talk of a gradual switch over.I presume this means running two sets of data.
I need to spend a few hours becoming familiar with it.Thanks for the reply, if i manage to figure it out i will send you a file to convert (thanks in advance), but last time i wasn't able to do it and had to go back to george.
Just seen nathaneal's comment and he does have a point.I stuggle with wcp, but accept that others find it easy.If you write it nathanael i will try it- or it could be another guild benefit.
Cheers Clive

We do have plans to do a PDF or a video tutorial in the near future. We are also going to put some info in the newsletter we will be sending each month from November...Brads Basic's and also Hannafords Helpful Hints.
Thing is some people use WCP in a different way from others so there is no generic format that everyone will like. A good example is a recent idea that instead of using the H:M to time jobs a customer now uses them for water litreage so he knows what he needs per day....damn good idea!
-
Clive....just an idea but if you are using George then send me a George backup file and i will convert it to a WCP database and return it to you. Then you can play with WCP as much as you want and you can always re-load the original database file to take you back to 'square 1'....its a good way to use, learn and play with WCP with no risk to your business, it'll only take a few hours to get used to it and it'll become second nature.
Then when you feel comfortable with it you can run it alongside George for a while and really see how your business will benefit (cos it will....!!!)
I showed my 14 year old daughter the basics and now she is quite able to use it...she refers to the help file now and then admittedly!

cheers.
I'm a bit of tight wad, but have any of you others (dave?) gone for the gold support at £60 a year?
For a dumbo like me this is probably worth it, what do the rest of you think?
-
Clive....have a look at the Support page on our website www.WindowCleanerPro.com for full information on Gold Support package. Bear in mind that you get the first month of Gold Support for free when you but WCP anyway but imho it is a damn good price for the support you get.

Heres a leading question for you Brad, would paying for "Gold support" get me a debt list on wcplite any quicker than I otherwise might expect cos this is a feature that I requested when I first purchased Wcp and have been led to believe its coming but I'm still waiting

Hi Chirs,
Debt list on the PDA is now done (and has been for a while). However I can't release it yet as it as the rest of the code base is still in development. Its quite a major change to the way customers, jobs, task, addresses and history are handled. With everything else that has been going on over the last 6 months we just have not had time to complete.
Thanks
Ian

its good that you are going to have a demo at the end of the year on your site ian, as i badly need it...i put a full round into my trial version and havent got the faintest clue as to what to do next........so i am going to wait till the demo comes out... as nat says a free copy of wcp for dummies will do, whichever appears 1st, i will def buy the full version when i know what it is i am supposed to do.

Best thing to do is give Brad a ring and he will walk you though it.

If you have 10 minutes this morning i will happily walk you through it on the phone or via Teamviewer. If you want to do a WCP backup iand send it to me at brad@windowcleanerpro.com then i will be able to use the exact same data you have there. Give me a call on 07889 206230 if you want to

None of us want to be nusiances, and while a few like me are computer dumbos we are smart in other ways.A team approach often gets better results faster (wikipedia/forums etc).
Many of our questions are so time consuming. For instance i would love to dump all the completed and suspended jobs that are really junk but still come up when i do a search?

Hi Clive. With WCP if you go into the Rounds screen and click on the Edit button next to the customer you want to delete it then comes up with the cutomer details, in the bottom left corner is a Delete button if you click on that it will delete all records for that customer (Use it with caution though as once deleted they cannot be got back!).
IMHO it is better to just create a round called Misc or Old or Deleted and move them into that, you never know w hen you may want to refer to it!
-
Good suggestion.
I have been studying hard and have just sent you a george file to convert.
I have read the help list and it is starting to make sense.

;D I was wondering the same sort of thing about complete jobs. that never even crossed my mind ;)
exellent

I have been thinking about how to run this all
owing to my round being a scheduled round which runs 8 weekly..
So every day will be a 'round' i.e WK1D1 > Week 1 day 1 MONDAY working all the way through to WK7D7 which would be a Sunday.
Then I'll have a various rounds to encompass what happens when they are no longer active i.e
DT = Dumped them.
DU = Dumped us.
SUS = Suspended but not dumped.
We'll see if this works out.
Cheers
Dave.

Nice way to get things in order. Different people have different ways of working, the beauty of WCP is that it is flexible enough to to pretty much most of what you want it to do.
-
good thinking pingu.
An example of when you ask a question and a much better answer
than you expected comes back.
I'm still struggling with pro, but expect to win at some point. My issue really is that i got on so well with george and found it so easy.
-
Just going to add my 2 penith in here....
Tried George last month - gave up after 2 days - basic and did not cover my requirements
uploaded WCP 3 days ago and i am impressed will trial it this week to make sure but it certianly ticks all the boxes so far
