when i was on a flat rate scheme(not wc) you got 1% discount for the first year.

Its currently 9% with a 1% discount in the first year, it is in the business not listed elsewhere category

It is 15 %

But you only pay the tax man the difference between vat recieved and vat paid out, this equates to about 10 % of your total turnover on average.

The tax man has an agreed figure for each industry, as a percentage of your turnover.

This is a transitional period to make it easier for smaller businesses to administer VAT
