Title: Other ideas to make a living
Post by: david thomas on October 20, 2009, 10:28:12 am
Was just wandering any of you do other small busineses while still running a w/c round excluding the add on stuff i.e
gutters fascias driveways., carpet cleaning. Reason i'm asking may get a guy to run my round and build up a pat testing or Handyman business
plus on another post ive done would give my neck a good rest. mind you its not that easy to find anything to match w/c income
has anybody made money from other business ventures.but not giving up w/c

Weve just took delivery of a 3000 watt vac.  We are planning to use it on gutters
and high level cleaning ie; exposed steel work in bakeries and laundries etc.
Anyone else doing this work?

Colin

I think there's a surprising number of WC's who have another business in the background. I build websites, perfect for rainy days & dark evenings.

I run an internet business selling stuff on e-bay. Its growing well but its a steep learning curve. Eventually it will displace the window cleaning, I hope, because in this business we are always vunerable to the bad back or like my friends got, a frozen shoulder.

Got a cycle hire/baggage transfer business and a couple of holiday cottages which keeps the money coming in.

Possibly looking into buying another tourism based business but that's still under wraps at the moment.

I'm a DJ !

Keeps the money coming in when the weathers bad, especially around Christmas.

Has anybody thought about putting up those iceical christmas lights that hang from the gutters for customers as any extra income stream ?

I'm the other way round- i found wc as my second business. The other is markets.I am quite good at both.

Two businesses are better than one, it seems so obvious, and it is nice to have a foot in different sectors, ie, service and retail.

The only business it is possible to grow is service, retail is finished pretty much.

Do you have a coffin shaped tank ?

If you go to matt's diy site there are pics of how he lined the coffin with ordinary bin liners and made a 400litre tank.Obviously when the 'other' work is on the tank has to be empty, but mostly he schedules the 'other' stuff for afternoons.

I have a few window cleaning jobs but my main job has been a gardener for 8 years i do garden maintence.Thats why i started the windows to try and get more gardening, problem is i like w/c better it's priced get it done and your gone not hourly rate. The thing is ive built up a good range of gear and will keep it as i know with the w/c will come grass cutting and other nice little earners.Problem is starting gardening is expesive to buy good quality gear i managed to buy most of mine off ebay and it's all top brands but i am quite handy with mechanic so i can fix it if it goes wrong.

DIY coffins for pets and people!

Just trying to imagine a dog making its own coffin  ;D. What about a goldfish....or do they have a burial at sea?

Is that where a dove tail joint comes from then?

The one big drawback with the funeral business is that you never build up a regular clientel. Every jobs a one off.
My mate is an undertaker and I have helped him out a few times.

One of my customers bug-ers rats for a living. He works for the council and they are totally bu--ered when he's finished with them.

He reckons there's a good sideline to be made from trapping urban foxes. The council gets loads of complaints about them but won't deal with them. Instead the refer them to an outside company.

I only do business debts now, I used to do private debts but didn't enjoy that.
People get more upset when you take their cars away from them.
It does tug at your heart strings when you take private belongings but you have to tell yourself that these people have borrowed without thinking about the outcome

Lol....i dont recognise your username, but i will be watching out for you now.
I prefer playing heads up and small sng's,but i have won a couple of nice sunday mtt's on 888,never been in the sky open but it looks good though.Only trouble with sky is a lot of the low limits sng's are full of idiots going all in on anything,so you have to play the higher limits or mtt's to egt a run.
Good luck and i will look out for you on both sites.
