Anyone tried out one of these yet, comes with 3 year guarantee.
We've had a 25ft Prolong for a while now and it seems to be lasting quite well, I now need a 36ft pole for a new set up and like this look of this one, at £195 it's well priced.
-
got a text about poles other day 18ft pole weighs 1.8 kg thats heavy for an 18 ft pole without brush
-
Yeah I got the same text, apparently the 36ft is 3.1kg, probably not the lightest but for duration of time it will get used for that's not a big issue.
-
yeah, they are similar in weight to their fibre glass poles, so not light. it's all about longevity with these it seems.
-
now if they can crack the weight issue they will sweep the market, as most expensive pole used do not last 3 years if they are well used. I like the 3 year call back..
-
Decided to go for it and have ordered the 36' version with 6" gooseneck and 10" head
-
let us know what there like ian as i'm gonna buy one or two i think as brodex poles normally last. the price seems real good for a 3 year guarantee also
-
cant find the pole on their site .36ft .that is

-
If they extend smoothly i might buy 1 lol.
-
I went for one of these, 31' with the 6" gooseneck. Currently using an unger glass fibre but it's a bit whippy at full stretch. Brodex quoted a week wait for the pole but free delivery. I'll let you know what it's like when it turns up, I've got quite high hopes for it though!
Dave.

Spoke to Brodex today, it should be with me by Thursday which is ideal as we do a lot of high level commercial work on Fridays so it should get a good airing then.
-
Hi i already have an 18 foot elite.May not be the lightest pole but is extremely durable so when contacted about the new cheaper vesion i ordered one.it arrived today and i have ro say it is great, with 4 shorter sections.
-
what is the closed length ? regards alan
-
the brodex 36' hydra is about 6'11" closed, bare pole.

-
does anyone know the closed length of the 18ft ally hydra pole and is it actually 18ft when fully extended regards alan
-
6 ft bare pole, 4 sections the link i put above gives the dimensions for all the alloy hydra poles ;)
-
we all know what they put on there site regarding weights and lengths , but when you actually get the pole this often differs , so my question is for someone that actually owns 1 of these poles who can give an accurate description regards alan
-
hi i think that description is a typo!the sections are about 4foot six.times four =18 foot.
-
the poles will be less than 6 ft, when you take the clasps, 2 inch each, and the length that stays inside the pole to give it rigidity. so the 4 poles inside each other stops at 6 ft, but extend with stoppers and get 18 ft :D
-
ian have you got your pole whats the verdict ???
-
a quote from the Brodex website with regards to pole length.
Amazingly short collapsed length: (bare pole)
7ft only 34 (3-section)
18ft only 6 (4-section)
25ft only 61 (5-section)
31ft only 63 (7-section)
36ft only 611 (7-section)
-
if anyone has bought the 18 or 25 ft can you please post a review including lengths etc as i am thinking of buying a couple regards alan
-
Collapsed lengths don't look too impressive ???
-
Got our 36' pole yesterday morning too late for the commercial work.
So far I've only managed to get it unboxed and built up. I have had it extended and it's very rigid, even at full height, it's not the lightest pole out there but nor is it the heaviest, it feels a lot lighter than the omnipole that we used to have.
Looks well made and solid, for £195 I think it's very good value, not everyone is happy spending £800+ on a pole that only gets used occasionally.
Will let you know more after we've used it in anger this coming week.
-
I have always believed that the lighter the better.
Although this still holds true sometimes a compromise is required.
This pole is it.For someone like me who cant be bothered with wiping pole hose etc an ally pole is perfect. To be able to use a reasonably weighted pole that is phenomely strong (I dont put it down ,very often i just drop it!!!!)Before i got the first one i too used to get through other poles regularly(wearing out and breaking)
I always liked ally poles after starting with a converted unger, but didnt like the clamps so when the new lighter elite pole came out i quickly bought one and have been delighted with all aspects of them.
Now i have bought the new one for my lad and to be honest i cant keep my hands off it ,the shorter lenghth and especially cheaper price is ridiculous (my friend is kicking himself as he has just paid about the same price for a bog standard f/g pole which wont last much more than a year)
-
I have had an alloy pole before and did not like it. They are really cold and stain your hands with the alloy. Plus the pole will last a long time but it wears out the clamps and the price brodex charge. you might as will get a new pole. I use the x-tel from gardeners. I use the 30ft for every thing. They last about a year and thats good enough for me only replace the pole. brushes last a long time
-
Wear some gloves!!!! in winter anyway and all poles give off some form af staining(and splintering)eventually. As i said before it is a case of compromising sometimes.
-
what exactly does the three year guarantee include? does it cover general wear and tear ?
-
it will be against manufacturing defects i reckon.
-
it will not be the same aluminium as a harris! well if it is, i'll be going on cruises from now on :-X
;D
-
has anyone used the 18 or 25ft yet regards alan
-
3 year guarentee covers anything even if run over by a car , this was from there mouths.
-
aLan yes i have used the 18 footer and it is superb.
-
whats the closed length and roughly how heavy cheers alan
-
Purchased a Brodex Hydra 31 footer and it arrived yesterday, havent tried it yet, but hey what a monster!
I,m pleased i will only use it now and again, but it probably weighs the same as the x-tel 17 footer i got with my trolley from purefreedom. 8)
Oooh and i never realised you got the brodex brush with it, champion, just the ticket! ;D
-
i used the 25ft pole today and can highly recommend it , nice and rigid , light enough to use all day , looks well built , extends and collapses nicely , only downside is the so called lightweight brush which is rubbish , put a superlite on it and you,ve got a great long lasting pole , absolute must buy if you,ve got employees , just about to order another regards alan
-
i used the 25ft again yesterday and i am really pleased with it , the main thing is it will last and i won,t have to keep forking out for new poles every year , just wish they had put a better brush on it , this is deffo my best pole purchase in 3 years regards alan
-
got in touch with Brodex about the actual length of the 36' alloy hydra
So the actual length of the 36 is 334 bare pole, so by the time youve added a neck & brush on its around 34. We add only a couple of feet for from the hip
rather than 5, 6 or 7 for some guy at full stretch, working in platform soles!
I had asked the question as some folk add about 5' to the actual length when the give the size.
so think I'll be ordering one by the end of the week.
-
My poles came and at first impression thought they look good, however the lever on the clamp broke within 10 minutes of using and the whole clamp part came away from the pole, the levers are very fragile and I know for sure I will need to keep replacing them, the aluminium pole itself will last years but the poles are quite rigid, the only negative I have is the whole clamp parts, other than that yes it is a good pole
-
maybe a bad clamp :(, I've used a prolong with these clamps for about 10 months with no prob.
hope it gets sorted quick for you
-
i,ve got 5 five of there poles and although the clamps do need re- glueing every now and then i,ve had no trouble with the levers regards alan
-
I'm surprised anyone is actually still using Alluminium poles.
I had one the brodex prolong poles, I had to send back as too heavy for one person to use when fully extended.
Unbelievable really.
Kind regards. :o

I think you need some spinach,I have the 36 footer along with the 18 and 25 feet ones, the 36 footer is doddle and I'm an average build, how long was your prolong pole......80 feet :D

can't argue with that, use the 25 ft prolong every day not had a problem with it.
I think though, it was established on the first or second page of this thread that it's not for the sissy boy brigade
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)
-
Hi the original prolong is heavy, this new one is lighter,so although the build quality is still great it has that advantage.
-
superb pole , i,ve got 2 of the 25ft and as long as you put a superlite brush on it it really is a top pole regards alan
-
sent off order for 36 ft hydra. got call today, SOLD OUT, till new year :'(
