Having bought a leisure battery and some quick release battery terminals, have only just noticed that the positive terminal is larger than the negative and the quick release clamp won't quite fit over the positive. Is it ok to reduce the diameter size of the battery post and how would you advise the best way of doing it.? Is it a matter of filing, filing and more filing or a strong grade emery or such like abrasive paper??
thanks

rather than filing the battery terminal couldnt you just open the clamp up more ?
if not ive used emery paper on the terminals before .they are only lead so it wont take long .

As Dave said if you can't open the clamp any more then yes, as your only using it for a pump then it will be fine, Just don't try using it in the future to draw any heavy currents or you stand the chance of melting the terminal if you take it down to far.

Thanks Dave, no they are Brass terminals and don't respond to being prised open, they just spring back again, but obviously as you tighten them they close ok. It looks like an emery paper jobby then :( lol
just seen your post as typing Jeff, thanks for the input, yes it will only be for the pump..................and by the way jeff, got my charger ;)

Wouldnt it be easier to get some crocodile clips, i got some from a car accessories shop for a couple of quid! Rather than trying to make the terminal smaller!

well ,yh it would, but a few people said they had problems with good connections with crocodile clips, so I tried to cover all avenues.............and still ended up with a problem........lol I knew I couldn't win...lol

if they are red and blue connectors, they dont give the best fit either, I have them on my of my van systems and forever going back and moving them ::) we get round to changing them again third time lucky maybe

When i fitted my pump, years ago, i just some small round terminal connectors on the wiring system and drilled into the battery terminals and the used a screw into each terminal to hold the connections.Never had any problems, and when taking the pump out to be serviced i just simply had to unscrew the connectors....easy really.

These are the type...........not the red and blue ones, so hopefully they are more secure. Second item down.
