its a simple solution
fill a 25 L with water and anti free, so you can see the water is BLUE
put "IN" hose in barrel and the pipe from your brush back into the barrel
run system till the BLUE water is coming back into the barrel ( your system is now full of antifreeze water )
leave in van
when it comes to work in the morning, connect hose to pure water and run though BACK INTO the BARREL till it runs clear ( your system is now empty of antifreexe water and ready to work ) if you time both fairly quickly the barrel of antifreeze water should last ages
it takes a few mins in the evening and night to do this
no heaters, no fuss

well my 25 L barrels never froze once ( just a 1" on the top once or twice ) i would love to see a 400 L tank freeze solid while in the van ) it would have to be a extreme temp and if its that low, you are not going to be working anyway

yep, just what I do, have van mounted 60 meter reel of microbore and it never freezes up now.
cheap and easy solution and recyclable. ;D

can you start working straight away or do you have to flush the system for a bit?
only takes a minute or two to flush, the antifreeze is blue, you flush it back into container until the water (pure) runs clear, simples

yes, disconnect from tank outlet, put that into antifreeze solution and pump through system

Of all the advice and information on this forum this has to be one of, if not ,the best and most useful!!!!
I,however will wait until mine freezes up,cuss and swear,stand in the freezing cold until i can figure out what to do and then come to the conclusion that i should have done the right thing!!!!!!!!

i thought i would just post the solution, we have people talking about heaters in the van etc etc

Does anti freeze have an acohol content?

Doesn't work if you have got everything in the van including DI and RO. Antifreeze can't be good for the DI resin.

surely you can wait til after work for a drink ;D

The reason I ask is the pump uses a rubber diaphram, and alcohol will have a faster affect on the deterioration of the rubber.

but it works with everything else, the hoses, pole hoses etc etc
by-pass the DI or just use the DI when you fill your van tank for the few winter months , at least you will still be able to work in the morning
of course if you have the RO in the van, you will have to have it heater because the RO will freeze and crack the housing

Yea and it's a 4040 as well. It's a stainless steel housing so won't crack, but it's the membrane that gets knackered. :-\

its a good point and worthy of noting,
I honestly dont know, I dont use antifreeze neat I just follow the mixing instructions
To be honest where i live I only had to use it maybe 6 times or so last winter when it was really cold (night time temps dropping to -3 or 4 )
I have done this the last couple of years now with my shurflo pump which is about 4 years old now and so far no problems.
