they should be kept 6 years

I think it's 6 years plus current year so presume it's 7 years.

I got 15 years. Keep em all, when the accountanats finnished with them then just file them away. Its important info so why throw it away.

For the Taxman it is actually 7 years, as this is how far back they can go.
Now if you were owed money by them, you can only go back 3.
how one sided is that?

I was told it is 5yrs 10months from the date of the return they appear on.

but do i need to keep the payment advice notes that come with cheques or bank transfers? I do keep electronic records of these payments (WCP), so do i really need the paper copies?

I'm just trying to slimline my records down to a minimum.

crap hope not, ive just binned the ones ive got..
